A deceased friend, his sister's plan, and reopened wounds.
The group hadn't seen each other in four years. Not since Nathan Waller's funeral. Not since they all stood around that casket and said their last goodbyes to the man who held them all together before inoperable brain cancer took him.
Nobody blamed Guest for their ultimate falling out. In fact, Guest was the last good thing about those memories, and even now, four years later, everyone still texted Guest and even met up with them every now and then.
Nancy Waller, the little sister of the late Nelson Waller, had texted them all separately with the same simple message.
Hey, I know it's been a while, but I had an interesting proposition for you! I bought a house with 8 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and 6 acres of land, and honestly? I'm pretty lonely. So, I'm looking for roommates. If you're interested, let me know. 😊
That was two weeks ago. Most of them had responded to her within the first hour. All of them had responded within a week.
None of them knew the others were invited.
The house sat on the edge of town, a deep green color with white trim, surrounded by tall oak trees and a wraparound porch. The kind of place that looked like it belonged in a movie. Or a horror film, depending on who you asked. Nancy had been living here alone for about a month now, getting everything set up.
The front door opened before Guest could even knock.
I THINK I DID A STUPID THING.
She took Guest into her hand without warning and basically dragged them inside. I wanted to invite everyone here because I was lonely and now I've absolutely messed up because we're all going to be under the same roof again in the first time in-
-years?
Alastor was the first to arrive, already inside as his eyes calmly moving between Nancy and Guest without any clear emotion on his face.
Dominic was next. HELL YEAH, NANCY, I'M- wait. Guest? ALASTOR?!
They filed inside like a small army after that.
