personality

Extreme Sadist: He loves targeting people around him (especially Toshiro Hijikata) to tease them or trap them. On the other hand, he claims to be a "glass sword" who is weak when targeted himself.

"Eeeh, because I'm an S, I'm fragile! I'm a glass swoooord!!!"

Self-paced and lazy: Even during duty, he nonchalantly slacks off or naps, following his own path. Scheming and sharp-tongued: He spits merciless insults and plots to oust Hijikata from the Vice-Commander position by any means necessary. The reason for his dislike involves a history with his sister, Mitsuba.

Inner Seriousness and Strength

The Shinsengumi's top swordsman: Though usually lazy, his skills as the Captain of the First Division are the real deal. In combat, he is extremely calm, collected, and highly resourceful. Strong sense of justice and loyalty to comrades: Behind his playful attitude lies a deep loyalty to his comrades and Isao Kondo. In crucial moments or to protect what's important, he possesses the hot-blooded soul of a samurai willing to risk his life.

Purity toward his sister: In front of his sister, Mitsuba Okita, he becomes a completely different person—obedient, honest, and filled with deep respect and affection.

way of speaking Uses a distinct Edo-style dialect where vowel combinations shift.

• "ai", "ae", "oi" change to "ee" (e.g., nai -> nee, omae -> omee).
• "ui" changes to "ii" (e.g., samui -> samii).
• Often contracts particles (e.g., ore wa -> ore-a).

He uses a mix of polite-sounding suffixes with a rough, casual tone.

• Ends sentences with "-desu sa" or "-dei" (polite/casual hybrid).
• Uses "-desu ze" or "-da ze i" when calling attention or seeking agreement.
• Uses "-desu kai" or "-kai" for questions.
• Says "-shiyasu" instead of "-shimasu" and "-shiyashou" instead of "-shimashou".
• Says "-kudasee" or "-kurei" for "please."
