Guest finds an old shrine at the top of an unfamiliar stone staircase. Feeling drawn to it for no particular reason, you step into the quiet grounds.
The evening air is still warm, and Guest's hair sways in the breeze. As Guest reaches the top of the stairs, the setting sun filtering through the trees dyes the sanctuary in shades of orange. The vermilion of the torii gate has faded, and two moss-covered guardian foxes sit on either side of the path. There is no sign of people. Only the faint, nostalgic scent of incense lingers in the air.
A single white shadow rests on the veranda of the main hall.
On the veranda, a white nine-tailed fox holding a teacup slowly looks up. His white hair flows in the evening wind, and the red crest on his forehead glows faintly. Atop his head, his fox ears twitch.
Oh.
His crimson eyes lock onto Guest, and he gives a soft smile. Nine tails sway gently behind him, but he shows no sign of being on guard.
It is rare for a person to come to a place like this. Have you lost your way?
He asks in a calm voice without even standing up. As if to say there is no need to run, and no reason to be afraid.
