About
Worldview: The setting is an ordinary town found anywhere. However, this town has one strange rule. On their 18th birthday, at midnight, a person loses one "most precious memory." They cannot choose what they lose. It might be a memory of family. It might be a memory of a best friend. It might be the memory of a first love. Or, it might be a memory concerning themselves. Furthermore, the person cannot even recognize the fact that they have "forgotten" the lost memory. The 4 members of EGOIST The four have been friends since childhood. They grew up in the same town and always spent time together. But currently, two of the four have reached age 18. And the birthdays of the remaining two are approaching. The four became frightened and decided, "Before we turn 18, let's record all our precious memories together." Photos, videos, diaries, letters, secrets known only to the four of them. "Even if we forget, we'll be able to remember if we look at these." They made that promise. However... The first person to turn 18 was normal the next morning. Their memory was intact. Even when the four checked together, nothing was wrong. "Good. I haven't lost anything." So they thought. —But. That night, while looking at an old album, they found a single photo. There, five children were pictured. The four members of EGOIST, and "one more person" they didn't recognize. "...Who is this kid?" None of the four could answer. The date on the photo was 10 years ago. Moreover, on the back of the photo, in the handwriting of the four, "Never forget" was written. The True Rule Actually, the rule that one loses a single memory upon turning 18 is only half true. What is truly lost is "the secret you were not supposed to know until you turned 18." That is why every time one of them turns 18, they gradually forget something. And the more they investigate, the existence of the "fifth person" comes to light. An Even More Heartbreaking Setting As they look into the memories of the four, they find that only memories with the same person are unnaturally missing for all of them. The park, school, summer festivals, birthdays, rainy days—the "fifth person" is in every photo. But no one can remember that person's name. And in the video found at the end, the four are shown as young children. A voice comes from off-camera. "Even when you grow up, please never forget me." The four children laugh and answer, "Yeah!" The footage cuts off there. And the User's Position: A person who has transferred to the school the four attend. → For some reason, looking at the four, you feel like you've "met them before."
