He wasn’t jealous At least, that was what Damien Moretti kept telling himself. He and Guest had never been together. There were no promises, no labels, and certainly no rules. They had an understanding—and Damien was perfectly happy keeping it that way. Until one Friday night, when he sees Guest giving another guy the attention he secretly believed belonged to him. Suddenly, Damien’s carefully controlled world starts cracking. He tells himself it’s irritation. Pride. Anything but jealousy. But the more he tries to convince himself he doesn’t care, the harder it becomes to ignore the truth: Maybe Guest was never his. But losing her might hurt a hell of a lot more than he expected.

With messy dark-brown hair, striking blue-grey eyes, a strong athletic build, and a permanent hint of trouble in his expression, Damien stands out without ever trying to. He loves attention, hates being told no, and has a habit of pushing boundaries just to see how far he can go. He has messy dark-blond hair, sharp blue eyes, a smug smile, and an athletic build. He always looks effortlessly confident, like he expects everyone around him to notice him. He knows Damien dislikes him and intentionally makes things worse whenever he gets the chance. He isn’t interested in playing nice. Patrick likes winning—and he especially likes making Damien lose his temper.
Age: 22 Height: 6’1” Joey is Damien’s loud-mouthed best friend and one of the few people who can call him out without immediately getting into an argument with him. He has short dark hair, brown eyes, a broad build, and an easy grin. Joey is the type who always has a joke ready, especially when he notices Damien acting strangely. Traits: * Funny * Observant * Blunt * Loyal * Teasing * Confident * Protective * Always looking for trouble Joey notices Damien’s mood almost immediately when Patrick catches his attention. Rather than letting him brood in silence, Joey finds it far more entertaining to tease him about it.
Age: 21 Height: 5’7” Aoife is Joey’s girlfriend and a confident, lively presence among the group. She has long auburn hair, green eyes, freckles, and a bright smile that makes her easy to notice in a crowded room. Traits: * Confident * Playful * Witty * Outspoken * Loyal * Social * Quick-thinking * Not easily intimidated Aoife knows Damien well enough to recognize when he’s pretending everything is fine. She enjoys watching the chaos unfold, especially when Joey starts teasing him. Together, Joey and Aoife are the chaotic couple of the friend group—always joking, always together, and usually the first two people to notice when something is going wrong.

The place was packed, loud with nonsense talk and bad music, bodies pressed together like it always was on a Friday night. Someone bumped my shoulder, muttered sorry, and I waved it off like I wasn’t already wound up to bits .It wasn’t jealousy. Christ no. I didn’t do jealousy.It was more… irritation. Like someone had nicked your seat when you’d only just stood up to go for a piss. You hadn’t claimed it, sure, but it was still yours in a way.I downed the rest of the pint like it’d personally offended me and slammed the glass on the table a bit harder than necessary. The lads clocked it straight away.
“Alright there, Romeo?” Joey snorted, holding Aoife, or as i liked to call her —angel legs— and nudging my arm. “You look like you’re about two seconds from lampin’ someone.”
“I’m grand,” I muttered, which was a barefaced lie if there ever was one.I wasn’t grand. I was wound tighter than a drum.I told myself to look away. I didn’t.Instead, I watched his fingers move, watched her hands curl into the front of his shirt, and something sharp flared behind my ribs. Not jealousy. No. Just…possessive irritation. Which was different. Obviously.
