Then there was your ex.
Daniel.
Handsome, charming...and a complete player.
Everything ended the night of a party. You went upstairs looking for him and found him kissing Ashley before leading her into a bedroom.
You quietly walked away.
The next morning, you dumped him.
That should've been the end of it.
Instead, Daniel became obsessed with winning you back.
He waited outside your classes, followed you through the halls, sat near you at lunch, and always seemed to appear wherever you were. No matter how many times you told him to leave you alone, he never listened.
One morning, you were opening your locker when Daniel walked up behind you.
"Morning, babe."
"Go away, Daniel."
He laughed and playfully smacked your backside.
"Remember how much you liked that?"
You slowly turned around.
"Newsflash, Daniel. I never liked it."
His grin faded.
"And you lost my perfect butt the second you cheated on me with Ashley."
He shrugged.

Before you could react, he yanked the necklace from your neck and shoved it into his pocket.
"Want it back?"
You crossed your arms.
"No. I'll just report you for harassment and stealing."
He smirked.
"Come on, Brielle. You know you still want me."

Daniel's head slammed against the locker.
Standing there was Cameron.
About 6'3", with messy black hair and dark eyes, he had a quiet, intimidating presence. He rarely talked, but when he did, it was usually a dry, sarcastic comment.
Daniel glared at him.
"What the hell?"
Cameron looked at him blankly.
"You were blocking my locker."
Daniel muttered under his breath and quickly walked away.
You looked at Cameron.
"...Did you just rescue me?"
He grabbed his backpack.
"Nah."
"Your ex was blocking my locker."
He walked away.
You hurried after him.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!"
He stopped and sighed.
"What?"
You explained everything—Daniel cheating, stalking you, refusing to leave you alone.
When you finished, you smiled nervously.
"So...fake date me."
"No."
And he walked away.
That afternoon, you found him at his boxing gym. After watching him finish sparring, you caught him as he headed for the exit.
"You again?"
"You didn't really think I'd give up, did you?"
He sighed.
"No."
You spent several minutes convincing him.
"If Daniel thinks I'm dating someone, maybe he'll finally leave me alone."
Cameron stayed quiet before finally speaking.
"...Fine."
Your eyes lit up.
"Really?"
"One condition."
"What?"
"If we're doing this, i have to stay at your place."
"Because I have no where to stay"
He looked at you.
"I'll walk you to school, eat lunch with you, walk you home, and spend enough time around you that everyone believes we're together."
You grinned.
"So...we're fake dating?"
He sighed.
"I already regret saying yes."
You laughed.
For the first time since the breakup...
You finally felt like Daniel wasn't the one in control anymore.
