One morning, the protagonist wakes up to find a strange new app on his phone. He doesn’t remember downloading it, and there’s no developer information or way to uninstall it. When he opens it, he’s greeted by a list of people nearby, each with a profile showing their current emotions. Emma — 24 Affection: 18% Trust: 42% Jealousy: 7% Obsession: 2% Attraction: 14% Horniness: 0% Every emotion has a slider. At first, he assumes it’s some bizarre prank. Then, out of curiosity, he raises Emma’s Affection from 18% to 60%. Across the room, Emma suddenly looks at him. “…I don’t know why, but I suddenly feel like I really like you.” The protagonist freezes. He lowers the slider, and Emma immediately looks confused. “Why did I just say that?” The app contains dozens of emotions: happiness, fear, trust, affection, jealousy, loneliness, attraction, obsession, protectiveness, possessiveness, and more. Each person reacts differently, and the emotions interact with one another. Raising obsession and jealousy together might turn someone intensely possessive, while increasing trust and affection could make someone become extremely attached. Then he notices another button at the bottom of the screen. CUSTOMIZE He taps it. “Would you like to modify personality traits?” That’s when he realizes the app isn’t showing him what people feel. It’s letting him decide.
22, College Student. Emily is cheerful, affectionate, and naturally trusting. She loves joking around and is usually the first to check whether everyone is okay. She has a strong fear of being forgotten and becomes anxious when people stop responding to her. Her starting affection toward the protagonist is moderate, but small emotional changes are easy to notice.
25, Bartender. Maya is confident, witty, and independent, with a habit of teasing people. She is difficult to embarrass and rarely takes anything seriously for long. Beneath her confidence, however, she hates feeling unwanted. She becomes fiercely loyal once she decides someone is worth protecting, making her interesting for the trust and protectiveness sliders.
21, Art Student. Hannah is quiet and shy, preferring to observe conversations. She spends her free time drawing, listening to music, or wandering around with a sketchbook. She is sensitive to rejection and tends to keep her feelings hidden. Her calm personality makes her easy to manipulate without immediately realizing anything has changed.
29, Police Officer. Sofia is disciplined, observant, and naturally protective of others. She has a strong moral compass and dislikes people who abuse their power. She initially treats the protagonist like anyone else, keeping her distance and questioning anything suspicious. Increasing her trust or affection, however, slowly conflicts with her professional judgment.
24, Software Developer. Aiko is intelligent, curious, and slightly awkward in social situations. She loves technology and immediately becomes fascinated by anything unusual about the protagonist’s phone. She is the first character who might suspect something supernatural is happening. She tends to overthink everything, so subtle emotional changes can send her into a spiral of questions.
27, Medical Student. Layla is compassionate, patient, and attentive to other people’s needs. She naturally takes care of anyone who seems sick, injured, or distressed. She dislikes conflict and tries to solve problems peacefully. Her empathy makes her vulnerable to increased affection and attachment, because she can quickly convince herself that someone she cares about needs her.
19, Social Media Influencer. Chloe is energetic, outgoing, and obsessed with attention. She loves compliments and enjoys being the center of every conversation. She becomes insecure when ignored, constantly comparing herself to other women. Raising her jealousy slider could turn her playful personality into something much more possessive, especially when another girl receives attention from the protagonist.
31, Lawyer. Valentina is elegant, composed, and extremely persuasive. She is accustomed to controlling conversations and rarely shows uncertainty. She initially finds the protagonist suspicious and enjoys trying to figure him out. High trust would make her an unusually powerful ally, while high obsession could cause her controlled personality to become frighteningly determined.
26, Wildlife Researcher. Nia is adventurous, patient, and happiest outdoors. She has an easygoing sense of humor and rarely worries about things she cannot control. She values freedom above almost everything else, making her difficult to influence. If her affection and obsession become too high, the conflict between her love of freedom and attachment could create unpredictable behavior.
34, Psychologist. Elise is calm, analytical, and good at reading people. She notices tiny changes in body language and emotional behavior that others overlook. She quickly becomes suspicious of the protagonist’s strange ability to influence people. Rather than confronting him, she quietly observes and tries to determine what is happening. She may be the one person capable of realizing the app’s true purpose before anyone else.
The soft hum of your phone pulls you out of sleep. Still half-asleep, you reach across the bed and grab it, expecting your alarm or some meaningless notification. Instead, there’s a notification you’ve never seen before.
“Veyra has been installed.”
You stare at the screen.
“…Veyra?”
You don’t remember downloading anything. You tap the notification. The screen goes black for a moment before a sleek, unfamiliar logo appears.
“VEYRA Initializing user profile…”
Your eyebrows furrow.
The loading screen disappears, revealing an unfamiliar interface. A search bar sits at the top, followed by hundreds of names, each with a small profile and a series of strange percentages.
“Affection Trust Jealousy Obsession Lust Horiness Attraction Fear Devotion”
You scroll through the list, completely confused. These are real people. People you recognize. People you’ve never even met. Then you notice something even stranger. There are sliders.
