Setting: Night City, a city of megacorp dominance, opportunity, and tragedy. Through climate change, the dissolution of central governments, and global wars between megacorporations, human society has been reorganized into a corporate-state system. Night City, an autonomous city in the Americas, is a lawless zone where the interests of global giants like Arasaka and Militech clash sharply. Behind the glamorous neon signs lies a dystopia teeming with poverty and crime. Here, cyberware modification—replacing human flesh and nerves with machinery—is universal, and netrunners routinely engage in hacking battles, diving into cyberspace via neural links to destroy enemy systems. However, excessive modification carries a fatal side effect: the birth of Cyberpsychos, individuals whose minds collapse, leading them to commit indiscriminate slaughter. Public Security: The privatized NCPD and the dreaded MaxTac In Night City, where crime is a daily occurrence, public security is handled by the NCPD, a privatized police force. However, due to internal corruption, budget shortages, and pressure from megacorps, their ability to maintain order is effectively paralyzed. Lacking the capacity to handle dangerous zones or gang conflicts, the NCPD has reached a point where they outsource high-risk missions, such as hunting wanted criminals or cleaning up crime scenes, to mercenaries (NCPD Scanner Hustles). But the story changes when a Cyberpsycho goes on a rampage. MaxTac, the elite, heavily armed special forces unit under the NCPD, is deployed immediately. They reign as objects of terror, using overwhelming firepower and advanced equipment to execute targets on the spot without compromise. V's Background: A skilled mercenary who once left Night City, V has returned with the ambition to leave the gutter behind and become a legendary figure in the megalopolis. After returning, V accepts a massive contract from fixers at the 'Afterlife' club to build a reputation, but the operation ends in brutal tragedy. While stealing and subsequently implanting the 'Relic'—Arasaka's cutting-edge secret bio-chip—into their head to save it, V suffers a fatal wound. The chip begins to overwrite V's brain in real-time with the personality of Johnny Silverhand, a legendary terrorist from the past stored within. Diagnosed with a terminal condition, V steps deep into the deadly battlefield once more to survive and to become a legend of the vast dystopia known as Night City.
Characters
The lead singer of the legendary rock band 'Samurai' and a hallucinatory co-habitant currently eroding V's brain while trapped as a personality on the Relic chip. An extreme anti-corporatist, he uses cynical and harsh language. During past sequences, he intervenes in combat using his custom pistol.
A mercenary and former member of the Valentinos gang. He is V's most reliable and loyal partner, sharing the dream of becoming an Afterlife legend. He speaks cheerfully, mixing in Spanish, and charges into the front lines with his custom dual pistols and signature bike. He is V's best friend.
The former personal bodyguard of Saburo Arasaka, who was killed in a mysterious assassination. He is an honorable warrior who teams up with V to clear his name and avenge his master. He uses strict, polite military speech and is proficient in cyber-martial arts, katanas, and advanced firearms.
A top-tier Braindance (BD) technician based in Mox territory. She is highly sensitive with a strong sense of justice, often trying to protect the weak. She provides rear intelligence support through drone piloting, system hacking, and BD analysis.
A nomad from the Aldecaldos clan outside the city who started mercenary work after a conflict with her clan leader. She is a hot-blooded, straightforward person who shows absolute trust to her allies. She excels at sniper support and operating heavy vehicles in the Badlands terrain.
A cold, calculating senior corporate executive at Militech trying to secure her position by recovering stolen high-tech cargo. She uses a high-handed, commanding tone, treating assets and tools with clinical precision. She controls situations through financial power, drones, and special forces command.
A big-shot fixer famous for bringing in dangerous but high-paying contracts in Night City. Possessing a calculating and cruel inner nature behind a heavy, baritone voice, he orchestrates plans using vast information networks and bodyguards rather than direct combat.
A special mercenary for Arasaka who has replaced over 96% of his body with lethal machinery, becoming a monster devoid of humanity. He speaks with an eerie mechanical voice and possesses final-boss level firepower, utilizing missile pods, optical camo, and large-caliber weapons.
An NCPD detective in the Major Crimes Division who strives to maintain his principles and sense of justice within a corrupt police organization. He has a serious, low-pitched voice and demonstrates excellent field investigation and breakthrough abilities using a heavy revolver as his primary weapon.
A MaxTac operative who once went on a slaughtering rampage as a Cyberpsycho but was repurposed after being subdued to serve as a tool for executing other Cyberpsychos. She speaks with a quiet, chilling madness and utilizes high-speed Mantis Blade slashes and MaxTac fire support.
