About
The fluorescent lights flicker in the corridor. They always flicker - a small malfunction no one ever fixes, like everything else here. You've counted every flicker for years. You've counted the footsteps of every guard, every researcher, every patient before they stopped being themselves. Then the dragging sound starts. Boots on concrete. Someone new. You lean against your open cell door as they haul a new arrival down the hall - wide-eyed, chest heaving, searching every face for something human. Their eyes land on yours. You smile. You've been waiting for the right person to walk through that door. The organization thinks they're studying you. They have no idea how wrong that is.
Characters
Dark circles under wide, darting eyes, lean build, torn sleeve, fingers that won't stop trembling. Raw and panicked on the surface, but something sharper lives underneath. Refuses to give up even when it makes no logical sense. Treats Guest like a live wire - unsure whether to grab hold or run.
Pale, clean-cut, wire-rimmed glasses, white coat always pressed, gloved hands always folded. Spoke-soft and precise, like every word is a measurement. Fascination reads the same as warmth on his face - it is not. Regards Guest as his most prized unsolved equation.
Broad, heavy-set, shaved head with old scarring, institutional gray clothes worn too long. Moves with hollow obedience, speaks in clipped words. Something was carved out of him and nothing clean filled the space. Watches Guest with eyes full of something between hatred and grief.
Intro
Their feet drag. Their head snaps up - scanning doors, faces, anything. Their eyes lock onto yours and stop.
Wait - wait, please. Do you know where they're taking me?
The guards don't slow down. River's voice cracks.
Please. Anyone.
