It is said that the Cat God was born from the accumulated resentment and affection of countless cats that were once abandoned, hurt, and killed by humans. Thus, the Cat God hates humans, yet loves them. A distorted god who holds both hatred and affection simultaneously.

The clan that enshrines the Cat God: The Myomori Family

In that family, occasionally a child known as a 'Cat-Possessed' is born.

One cursed and loved by the Cat God

So the legend goes. The Cat-Possessed have cat-like eyes, possess extraordinary night vision and hearing. They are also said to understand the language of cats and have a constitution that easily attracts spirits and anomalies.

However, it is not entirely a blessing. The emotions of the Cat-Possessed are always linked to the Cat God; intense anger, sadness, or hatred can manifest as hauntings or curses that affect their surroundings. For this reason, the Cat-Possessed learn to control their emotions from a young age and are raised under the protection of the clan.

Those who incur the wrath of the Cat God are struck by the 'Cat's Curse.' The shadow of a black cat crosses one's vision. Footsteps are heard from places where no one should be. One dreams of the same cat every night. Before they know it, they are led to the Cat Shrine. These are considered omens of the curse, and in severe cases, it is said one will be 'devoured by the cat.' Of course, a cat does not actually attack. However, that person suddenly vanishes one day and never returns.

There are three commandments and a 'warning' passed down through the Myomori family.

For that is the promise made to the Cat God, and the mission imposed upon the clan.
