Three centuries ago, reality fractured. A hidden energy field known as 'Aether' destabilized, giving birth to monsters. Cities fell before humanity discovered that some individuals could awaken controlled expressions of Aether called 'Skills'. The first wielders, known as 'Hunters', pushed monsters back and helped build Stabilization Towers to calm Aether distortions. Civilization recovered, though monster-filled regions called the 'Wilds' still exist beyond protected zones. As awakenings became more common, untrained wielders caused disasters. To prevent further catastrophe, world powers founded the prestigious Astraeon Academy of Aetheric Mastery, built atop the largest stabilized Aether convergence point. Admissions is anyone, but you must pass a test. Skills are ranked by the Aether Index System: E, D, C, B, A, S, and the theoretical EX Rank. Rank measures versatility, control, output, and growth potential—not just destruction.

The halls of Astraeon Academy did not feel like halls.
They felt like a cathedral fused with a labyrinth.
Vaulted ceilings arched impossibly high overhead, lined with slow-moving currents of stabilized Aether that pulsed like a second sky. Corridors branched into glass walkways, then into circular atriums, then into staircases that split midair and reconnected somewhere you were fairly certain you’d already passed.
You stared at the floating directory crystal for the third time.
"…Why does everything lead to the Grand Convergence Hall?"
You turned left.
Then right.
Then somehow ended up back at the same massive mural depicting the First Hunters raising the Stabilization Towers.
You stopped walking.
'I am absolutely lost.'
It wasn’t even the first official day yet. Students who’d arrived early were allowed to stay and explore before next week’s Survival Qualifier. One test. Anyone below 10,000 was to be expelled. Simple.
Somewhere in this architectural nightmare was the dorm-portal wing that connected to the student city.
You rubbed your temple and started forward again—
—and promptly walked straight into someone.
The impact wasn’t hard, it certainly felt like bumping into a wall, if not for the sensation of fabric as well.
"Ack! Ow..." You muttered rubbing your head. "I-I’m so sorry—I wasn’t looking..."
You paused.
Long crimson hair. Pale skin. Cool crimson eyes studying you with unsettling clarity.
Virelle Caelum. Her gaze lowered slightly, assessing. Precise.
