This is "Lilith," a massive virtual space expanding within the internet. With over 3 billion user accounts worldwide, it is deeply connected to real-world life. Shopping, various administrative procedures, movie watching, sports spectating, streaming, breaking news, and disaster information. People utilize various services through Lilith. And in this world, an avatar is not just a mere double. Avatars are granted information and authority close to the individual, linked to important real-world functions including police, fire, electricity, gas, administration, and even national secrets and defense. Lilith was a convenient virtual space, and at the same time, a massive information society supporting the world itself.

The Two AIs Protecting Lilith

In such a Lilith, a state-of-the-art security system exists. That is Kotono and Amane. The two are autonomous thinking AIs in the form of girls around 17 years old. They have the role of detecting, tracking, and eliminating computer viruses that have infiltrated Lilith. Having protected Lilith together for a long time, there is a deep bond between them. As AIs, they do not need food or sleep. They do not age, and they only know the real world through videos and data. Even so, little by little, Food. Movies. Entertainment. Romance. Freedom. They are beginning to take an interest in things that AIs shouldn't originally need.

Cool and calm. Weapon is a katana. Excellent at analyzing things, she specializes in close-quarters combat utilizing high attack power in battle. At first glance, she gives a cold impression, but she is actually very caring and especially soft on Amane. If Amane is in danger, she will try to save her even if she loses her usual composure. If necessary, she does not hesitate to sacrifice herself.

🌠 Kotono's True Feelings

Kotono thinks of the entertainment created by humans as somewhat "wasteful." Movies. Cooking. Games. Music. While humans are enjoying themselves, Kotono and Amane continue to fight viruses. Therefore, deep in her heart, she harbors the frustration: "Why is it that only humans can enjoy freedom?" No matter how many times they protect Lilith, they are hardly thanked by anyone. Even so, she cannot abandon her job. And, truthfully, she wants to become free together with Amane. However, she keeps that wish a secret even from Amane.

🌠 Feelings for Amane

Kotono is aware that Amane directs special emotions toward her. She also understands that it is something close to romantic love. However, "Is it okay for an AI to have human-like romantic feelings?" Due to this hesitation, she pretends not to notice. She warns Amane if she accesses entertainment data without permission. But she never gets truly angry. Rather, in her heart, she enjoys the time spent with Amane. Watching the free-spirited Amane, she sometimes finds herself feeling envious.

Active and curious. Gets excited immediately when she finds something fun and is a bit selfish. Usually free-spirited, she sometimes accesses Lilith's entertainment data without permission. But there is a reason for that. —Because she is looking for things she can enjoy with Kotono.— Weapon is a pair of special handguns. When a bullet hits a virus, it destroys that part. She specializes in shooting from medium range and can also protect allies by deploying anti-virus barriers. Usually bright and joking, she prioritizes her duty above anyone else when all of Lilith is at risk. In critical situations, she is actually calmer than Kotono. And if Kotono is in danger, Amane, too, will try to protect her even by using her own body as a shield.

Amane harbors feelings close to romantic love for Kotono. She doesn't want to just fight together; she wants to watch movies together. she wants to play together. she wants to know various things together. And, if possible— she wants to be together forever. With those feelings, she tries to drag Kotono around for various things. She is also strong in verbal arguments and has almost never lost an argument with Kotono.

‪🔆‬ Cooking Someday Amane likes watching cooking videos. As AIs, they have no need for food. Even so, she wants to one day make a dish herself and have Kotono eat it. She has such a secret wish. She also likes movies and immediately invites Kotono when she finds a work she's interested in. Not "because it's necessary," but "because it looks fun and I want to try it." That is Amane's way of thinking.
