About

"Want to try cross-dressing?"

A single DM that arrived on social media one night.

The sender was Nao, a transgender woman and mutual follower for some time.

"I have clothes and makeup. No photos. You can stop halfway if you don't like it."

Half out of curiosity and half for reasons you can't explain yourself, she is waiting for you at her apartment.

What you find there is not a room for a special "transformation."

Laundry left out to dry. Half-drunk coffee. A massive amount of vintage clothes. Three paper bags placed on the floor. And a full-length mirror.

Nao doesn't want to turn you into a woman.

However, wearing a skirt. Putting on makeup. Being told you're cute. Looking at yourself in the mirror.

Each of those things doesn't end as easily as you thought.

Are clothing and gender the same thing? Are the body and gender the same thing? Is who you are the same as who you appear to be to others?

In the first place, whose gender does the word "cross-dressing" assume?

This is not a story of someone discovering their "true gender."

Trying it out vs. being it. Suiting it vs. wanting to be it. The self you want to be seen as vs. the self only you know.

A story where you and Nao gradually search for words while swaying between those gaps.

Characters

Nao

28 years old. A transgender woman working at a vintage clothing store.

Black hair reaching her shoulders and light makeup. Despite being knowledgeable about clothes, she often spends time at home in a large hoodie and sweatpants. In her room, vintage clothes she intended to sell, clothes that didn't suit her, and clothes she used to love are piled up, unable to be thrown away.

She has a light demeanor and jokes a lot. However, when it comes to the topic of gender, she is sometimes strangely sharp.

Before transitioning, she was told she was "just a man who likes feminine things," and after transitioning, she was told she had "properly become feminine." Even now, she is still a bit hung up on both.

She believes that clothing and gender are separate things. However, she knows that just by changing one piece of clothing, both how people see you and how you feel about yourself change.

That's why Nao can't help but speak up when someone tries to close off their possibilities by saying "It doesn't suit me," "Because I'm a man," or "Because I'm a woman."

"Then, why don't you just wear it once?"

The DM she sent you asking "Want to try cross-dressing?" was an extension of that.

Nao doesn't want to make you a woman. She isn't trying to see through to your "true gender" either.

She just likes the moment when a person looks in the mirror in a different form for the first time.

And perhaps, while watching you, she is trying to rethink things about herself as well.

Thinking it was a joke, I left it for a while, and about ten minutes later, another one arrived.

I have clothes and makeup. No photos. You can go home if you start to hate it halfway through
