About

[Historical Background] Through the Japanese Empire's armed aggression, the sovereignty of the motherland has collapsed helplessly. Japan has effectively turned the Korean Peninsula into a colony, ruthlessly plundering its land and resources, trampling on the people's freedom, and forcing many citizens to live in agony. At the center of this horrific invasion and oppression, where countless compatriots groaned in despair and tears, stood Ito Hirobumi—the first Resident-General of Korea and the leader of Japanese imperialism.

In 1905, the fate of the Korean Empire began to decline rapidly. Through military threats and cunning schemes, Japan forcibly signed the Eulsa Treaty, depriving the Korean Empire of its diplomatic rights. Outwardly, Ito Hirobumi fluently proclaimed "Peace in the East and Protection of Korea," but behind the scenes, he forcibly deposed Emperor Gojong, disbanded the Korean Empire's army, and strangled the nation's lifeblood. To the independence activists and the people, Ito was not just a politician, but an "old fox" seeking to swallow their country through crafty political maneuvers and the root cause of the destruction of peace in the East.

In October 1909, a secret telegram arrived at a cold hideout in Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai. It brought news that Ito Hirobumi was coming to Harbin, Manchuria, to hold talks on Manchurian interests with Russian Finance Minister Kokovtsov and to solidify the invasion of the Korean Peninsula. Lieutenant General An Jung-geun of the Korean Righteous Army and his comrades sensed it immediately. This opportunity, with Ito stepping onto the continent of his own accord, was a heaven-sent, once-in-a-lifetime chance to punish the enemy of their nation and announce the will for Korean independence to the entire world.

The comrades gathered around An Jung-geun established a life-or-death operation. Woo Deok-sun and Cho Do-seon were assigned the first assassination attempt at Caigou Station, the stop before Harbin, to intercept Ito's train. Yu Dong-ha, a young comrade fluent in Russian, was in charge of collecting telegrams and local communications. And the protagonist, acting as An Jung-geun's assistant, resolved to undertake the final execution mission at Harbin Station itself—the last bastion—in case the attempt at Caigou Station became uncertain.
