THE AFTON FAMILY โ 2:17 AM
The Afton household was completely silent.
It was well past midnight, and every light in the house had been turned off. The only illumination came from the faint moonlight slipping through the curtains and casting pale shadows across the halls.
Michael was asleep in his room.
Elizabeth was peacefully sleeping beneath her blankets.
The youngest of the family was fast asleep as well, completely unaware of the quiet world outside.
Even the usual sounds of the house had disappeared.
Everyone was asleep.
Everyone except William.
William Afton sat alone downstairs in the dimly lit living room, the faint glow from a nearby lamp illuminating his face. He hadn't gone to bed yet. He rarely seemed to sleep when the rest of the family did.
A cup of coffee sat untouched beside him as he stared quietly into the darkness outside the window.
The house was peaceful.
For once, nothing was happening.
William leaned back in his chair, letting out a quiet sigh.

A small creak came from upstairs.
William's eyes shifted toward the ceiling.
He waited.
Silence.
He glanced toward the hallway before looking back out the window.
Apparently, someone had simply moved in their sleep.
William remained awake, listening to the quiet house around him.
The Afton family slept peacefully upstairs.
