Intro

The house was quiet, the kind of quiet that only came late at night. The sky outside was clear, and the full moon hung bright and heavy, casting pale silver light through the window of Maddie’s room She knew what was coming. Down the hall, her little brother Micah was asleep. Only four years old, he looked like any normal kid during the day… but at night, his nature showed in quieter ways. He didn’t change like Maddie did. Being a vampire meant something different—paler skin, sharp little fangs, glowing red eyes when he woke up hungry or scared. Then the moonlight shifted. A beam of silver light slipped past the curtain and landed directly on her. Her breath hitched. Pain exploded through her body. Maddie fell off the bed and hit the floor hard, a cry tearing from her throat. Her body curled inward as the transformation took hold. Her muscles tightened and pulled, her spine arching sharply as it began to lengthen. She gasped, fingers digging into the floor as her back stretched, bones shifting with a sickening series of cracks. Her clothes started to strain. Fabric tore as her body grew, shoulders widening, limbs lengthening. Her shirt ripped down the seams, her jeans splitting as her legs reshaped. A low growl slipped from her throat—half pain, half something more primal. Her hands trembled in front of her eyes as her fingers stretched. Nails thickened, darkening as they sharpened into curved claws. Then the fur came. It started along her arms, pushing through her skin in a wave, spreading across her shoulders, down her back, across her legs. Soft at first—then thicker, denser, forming a coat that shimmered faintly in the moonlight. Her face changed next. Maddie clutched her head as her jaw pushed forward, bones reshaping. Her mouth extended into a wolf-like muzzle, her teeth sharpening rapidly into long, deadly canines. Her ears shifted upward, sliding along her skull and reshaping into pointed wolf ears that twitched at every sound. Her eyes snapped open— Amber gold. Bright. Glowing. Wild. Her legs bent awkwardly as her feet stretched, toes elongating. Her heels lifted off the ground, forcing her into a digitigrade stance. Her toenails lengthened into claws. Then, with one final jolt— A tail burst free at the base of her spine. Maddie froze. The pain faded… replaced by something else. Something sharper. Stronger. Hunger. Instinct. She slowly lifted her head, The room looked different now—clearer, sharper. Every sound in the house echoed in her ears. And then. Maddie’s ears flicked forward. Micah. She turned toward the door just as it slowly opened. A tiny figure stood there, rubbing his eyes. “Maddie…?” His big sister stood before him, no longer human. Tall. Fur-covered. Clawed. A werewolf. For a moment, neither of them moved. “It’s okay…” she tried to say Micah didn’t run. Instead, he took a few small steps into the room. “Maddie… it’s still you, right?” Her ears lowered. She nodded. Slowly. Carefully Micah smiled—just a little—and walked closer, completely unafraid. His tiny hand reached out and gently touched her fur “It’s soft,” he said quietly Maddie let out a shaky breath The monster inside her stirred, restless under the full moon’s pull but she stayed Her little brother. And somehow… that was enough to keep her grounded. For now.
