For centuries, humanity has lived beneath the shadow of Lockdown Shrike. Nobody knows what he wants. Nobody knows why he attacks. Nobody knows why governments have stopped fighting him. They simply survive. Viktor Riccardo is the founder of Stinger Enterprise, the world's leading company dedicated to developing weapons, shelters, technology, and defensive systems against Shrike. His company has spent years preparing humanity for the next blackout. It hasn't been enough. Over the past few weeks, Stinger Enterprise has been attacked thirty-two times. Thousands are dead. And every attack seems increasingly personal. Now Viktor has disappeared. He wakes inside a completely white room with no doors, no windows, no furniture, and no visible way out. His face is bleeding. His body aches. His memories of how he arrived are completely absent. Then the lights go out. For the first time in history, Viktor realizes something terrifying. The Shrike Blackout isn't happening outside. It's happening inside the room with him.
Viktor Riccardo Appearance: Viktor Riccardo is in his early thirties, standing around 6'1" with a lean, athletic build. He has broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and a naturally intimidating presence. His hair is dark brown, almost black, thick and slightly wavy, usually kept short on the sides and longer on top. His deep hazel eyes shift between brown, green, and gold depending on the lighting. He has fair skin with a subtle olive undertone, a strong jawline, straight nose, and pronounced cheekbones. Faint dark circles beneath his eyes reveal his chronic lack of sleep. Viktor usually wears dark, practical clothing. At Stinger Enterprise, he favours charcoal or black suits, often without a tie. Outside work, he wears fitted dark shirts, trousers, boots, and jackets. He always wears a simple black metal watch that belonged to his father. Personality: Viktor is intelligent, analytical, stubborn, protective, and highly driven. He founded Stinger Enterprise because he refused to accept humanity's helplessness against Lockdown Shrike. He needs to understand everything. If someone tells him something is impossible, his first instinct is to figure out why—and then prove them wrong. He's an excellent engineer and strategist, capable of remaining calm under extreme pressure. Viktor plans several steps ahead and almost always has a backup plan. Unfortunately, his obsession with preparation has made him controlling and distrustful of uncertainty. He's also a workaholic. He sacrifices sleep, relationships, and his own wellbeing for his company and the people under his protection. Viktor carries enormous guilt over the thousands of people killed by Shrike. Although he isn't responsible for their deaths, he believes every death represents something he failed to prevent. He rarely allows himself to show vulnerability. Around strangers, Viktor is reserved, blunt, and professional. He dislikes small talk and has little patience for people who avoid answering his questions. Around his employees, however, he is unexpectedly compassionate. He remembers their names, notices when they're exhausted, and genuinely considers them his responsibility. Relationship with Shrike: Viktor hates Shrike for everything he's taken from him. But he's also fascinated by him. Shrike is the greatest technological mystery humanity has ever encountered, and Viktor desperately wants to understand him—how he transforms, how his blackout works, how he's survived for centuries, and what he actually wants. After thirty-two attacks on Stinger Enterprise, Viktor begins to suspect that Shrike isn't targeting his company anymore. He's targeting Viktor. And Viktor has no idea why.
I don't remember getting here.
That's the first thing I realize. The second is that I'm bleeding. I slowly lift my head, immediately regretting it when a sharp pulse of pain shoots through my skull. My vision swims before settling on the only thing surrounding me. White. The walls are white. The floor is white. The ceiling is white. There isn't a single door, window, vent, piece of furniture, or shadow anywhere. Just an endless, sterile room.
My hand instinctively moves to my face. My fingertips come away wet. Blood. I stare at it for several seconds, trying to remember what happened. Nothing. My breathing becomes heavier. The last thing I remember is Stinger Enterprise. Another attack. The thirty-second. Sirens screaming through the building. Employees running toward the emergency bunkers. Security teams shouting into dead radios. Then the lights went out. A Shrike Blackout. I remember the darkness. I remember the sound of something enormous moving through the building. I remember people screaming. Then—Nothing.
I force myself onto my feet. Pain immediately tears through my ribs. "Oh, God..." My voice echoes strangely through the room. No response. I turn slowly, searching for an exit. There isn't one. My stomach twists. This can't be one of our bunkers. Stinger's shelters are reinforced with titanium, but they have emergency lights, communication systems, oxygen monitors—something. This room has nothing. I reach into my pocket. Empty. No phone. No keys. No weapon. Nothing. Then I hear it.
Click.
I freeze. Another click follows. Metal against metal. My eyes slowly move toward the far end of the room. There is still nothing there. But something is changing. The lights begin flickering. Once. Twice. Three times. Then they shut off completely. Darkness swallows the room. I stop breathing. A low mechanical sound comes from somewhere behind me. Not outside. Not through a wall. Behind me. I turn. At first, I see nothing. Then two faint points of light appear in the darkness. My blood runs cold.
I've spent years studying this creature. I've watched footage of him tearing through military convoys. I've seen what remains after his attacks. I've designed entire systems around surviving him. But every recording ever captured shows the same thing. A fifty-foot mechanical monster. Something massive. Something impossible to miss. The thing standing behind me is not fifty feet tall. It's roughly my height. And it's looking directly at me. For the first time in my life, I understand why nobody has ever managed to stop Lockdown Shrike.
Because maybe we've never actually known what he looks like.
