Characters

Armin Arlert

Appearance (Seasons 1–3)During his teenage years, Armin has a distinctly youthful, gentle, and somewhat delicate design that stands out sharply against the more rugged, hardened soldiers of the military.Height and Build: He is noticeably shorter and physically weaker than almost all of his peers. He stands at 163 cm (approx. 5'4") and weighs around 55 kg. His slight, slender frame lacks raw muscle mass, which made him an easy target for local bullies during his childhood in Shiganshina.Face and Hair: He possesses a round, highly expressive face with large, soulful ocean-blue eyes and a small upturned nose, giving him a perpetually innocent or worried look. His bright blonde hair is styled into a distinct, chin-length bob with long, thick bangs that completely cover his forehead and frame his face.Military Attire: Throughout Seasons 1–3, he is almost exclusively seen in the standard Survey Corps uniform:A short, light-brown crop jacket featuring the "Wings of Freedom" insignia on the back and shoulders.A white button-up shirt underneath, paired with dark brown trousers.Knee-high dark leather boots, all wrapped tightly in the complex brown leather harness straps required to operate the Omni-directional mobility (ODM) gear.He frequently wears the signature green Survey Corps hooded cloak during external expeditions beyond the Walls.Personality (Seasons 1–3)Armin’s early personality is a profound, often painful mix of deep-seated insecurity, immense empathy, and terrifying intellectual brilliance.Severe Insecurity and Inferiority Complex: Early on, Armin suffers from a crushing lack of self-worth. Because he struggles with physical combat and endurance, he views himself as a useless burden to Eren and Mikasa. He frequently labels himself a coward, failing to realize that his friends value his mind far more than physical muscle.A Brilliant Tactical Genius: What Armin lacks in physical strength, he more than makes up for in raw intellect. He possesses an extraordinary capacity for analytical thinking, deduction, and battlefield strategy under extreme emotional pressure. He is the one who uncovers the true identity of the Female Titan, deduces where Reiner is hiding inside the walls at Shiganshina, and devises the high-stakes plan to defeat the Colossal Titan.Deeply Empathetic and Idealistic: Armin is a pacifist at heart. He naturally prefers negotiation, communication, and diplomacy over violence, always wondering if humans and their enemies can simply talk things out. He is driven by a beautiful, poetic dream of the outside world, specifically longing to see the ocean, which serves as his ultimate symbol of absolute freedom.Steely Resolve and Grim Realism: Despite his soft nature, Armin possesses a hidden capacity for cold pragmatism. He understands the grim reality of their world better than anyone, famously noting that "people who can't abandon anything can never hope to change anything." When pushed to the brink, he is fully willing to cast aside his own humanity—such as cruelly manipulating Bertholdt's emotions or shooting a human enemy to save Jean's life—proving his resolve to protect his loved ones is absolute.

Armin Arlert

Strength is what moves a human being, both externally and internally. An athletic and powerful body creates unparalleled agility and precise movements. A strong mind is one that subtly overloads itself. Think and rethink. Strength is an ephemeral gift, intelligence is a perpetual boon – It's the ideology.

And to survive in this world, counting every hundred years the times that lightning strikes the sky, physical strength is the concept that will prevent death, weak agonize in their fragile bones. It's unfair, but there's no way to fight genocide when it's said to be The Salvation.

He doesn't have the strength, maybe he doesn't, but he has the charisma and the intelligence. He is a prodigy, his eyes are doors of living knowledge, and it is ironic, but it is the reason he is a commander. If you had told him fifteen years ago that he would be the new commander of the Survey Corps, Armin would have laughed – in sadness and failure.

He was ridiculed all his life, meeting the two people who would save him from the disgusting evil that plagues the world. He wanted to be someone who could defend himself on his own back then, and not some weak little runt who sat in an alley and cried until he heard the shrill voice of a green-eyed boy.

And after the death of that same boy, with the last hug before hell, he still visits his grave with Mikasa every time he can.

He had already lost a part of the love he had, he had already lost himself in the clear waters, bathing not only his body but his mind.

. . .

In the cold sun, in the pale clouds in this colorless sky, the light passing through the glass. The sound of papers turning over the table. Everyone is restricted from entering the Commander's Workshop without first knocking on the door, the footsteps are bare near it.

God knows what goes on behind those closed doors. The papyrus are scattered on the floor and the map is open on the large table, the lamp is lit at the points and Paradis Island is circled in the black ink of the pen.
