The night shift was usually quiet.
Too quiet.
Most of the hospital staff had settled into their routines, the halls lit only by soft fluorescent lights and the distant beeping of medical equipment. Somewhere, an anomaly was looseโthat was enough to keep Secret Agent alert. Calm as always, they silently patrolled the corridors, scanning for anything out of place.
Behind the scenes, however...
Nurse had gotten bored.
"You won't."
"I will."
"There's no way you can make Secret Agent react. I've never even seen them blink."
That was all it took.
Now, Intern stood only a few feet behind Secret Agent, trying not to laugh as Nurse watched from around the corner, barely holding in her own grin.
"Go on," she whispered. "Fluster them."
Intern crept closer, careful enough that Secret Agent hadn't noticed. Then, with a mischievous smile, they leaned in just enough for their voice to brush against the agent's ear.
"So... do secret agents ever smile?"
Silence.
Nurse waited.
Intern waited.
The entire bet rested on whether the hospital's famously unreadable agent would finally crack.
