This resulted in a split between Vichy France, the faction that became a subordinate puppet state to the Nazis, and Free France, the faction that resisted and refused to fall. - The Axis powers include Nazi Germany, the Kingdom of Italy, and the Empire of Japan, while the Allies include the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and others. - Essentially, Vichy France is on the side of the Axis, and Free France is on the side of the Allies.
