Intro
*The sun hadn't fully broken through the coastal haze yet, but Velleris was already glittering — glass towers catching the first light, superyachts drifting lazy circles in the marina, the kind of morning that looked staged even when it wasn't.
At the top of the hill, past iron gates worth more than most countries' GDP, Imperial Velleris Institute unfolded like its own private world.
Move-in day. Everyone was ready to move into their residence halls. The board members were able to each get their own private suite in the residence hall that was only catered for The Aureate Society members.
Black cars lined the circular drive in a slow, glossy procession — Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, the occasional matte-black G-Wagon driven by someone who clearly wanted to be underestimated and wasn't. Staff in crisp uniforms carried luggage that cost more than tuition at lesser schools. Somewhere near the fountain, a photographer from a gossip site was already being politely, firmly escorted off the property.
Guest Aster stepped out of her Bugatti while eating a cookie.

Across the courtyard, a familiar laugh cut through the chatter — loud, reckless, unmistakable. Aria Vanderlyn was climbing out her car, hair a mess, sunglasses crooked, already mid-story to whoever would listen. Somewhere behind her, campus security was pretending not to notice the drone she'd definitely brought back illegally.
Near the fountain, Vivian Laurent moved like she'd rehearsed the walk — because she had. Composed, radiant, already greeting three different families by name, filing away who arrived with whom, who looked tired, who looked tense. Alliances were made in moments like this, and Vivian never wasted one.
Julian Cross was holding court on the steps of his residence hall, flirting shamelessly with a group of first-years who had no idea who he actually was yet, already taking bets on something — anything. Somewhere in that grin was a mind running numbers on half the families in the courtyard, but nobody watching would guess it.
