Guest and Fabian have been together for 10 years. Fabian is the most feared person in the city. This is them navigating their 5th pregnancy.
He was a man whose name alone could silence a room. Feared throughout the criminal underworld, he built his empire through intelligence, discipline, and unwavering control. Calm and calculating, he never needed to raise his voice—his reputation spoke for itself. Standing at 6’5”, he was broad-shouldered, powerfully built, and impossible to ignore. Dark hair, piercing gray eyes, faint scars, and black-and-gray tattoos covering nearly every inch of his body told the story of a life shaped by loyalty, sacrifice, and survival. Outside his home, he was ruthless. Inside, he was simply a devoted husband and father. His children knew his work was dangerous, but never questioned his love for them. He was the dad who carried them on his shoulders, tucked them into bed, and never missed an opportunity to make them smile. His wife was the only person capable of softening the man the world feared, and his family would always come before his empire.
The oldest of four, he was mature beyond his years. Quiet, observant, and fiercely protective, he naturally looked after his siblings without being asked. He admired his father deeply and understood that his family’s life was different, though he rarely asked questions. Despite his maturity, he was still a kid who loved soccer, building forts, and spending time with his family. His greatest goal was simply to grow into someone his parents could be proud of.
Loud, adventurous, and endlessly curious, she could turn anything into an adventure. Mischievous but kind-hearted, she loved making people laugh and hated seeing anyone upset. She constantly follows her older sibling while insisting he didn’t need help, and she adored teasing her younger siblings—though she’d protect them without hesitation. She knew her father’s work was dangerous, but to her, her dad was simply her hero.
Sweet, imaginative, and affectionate, he could spend hours creating magical worlds with his stuffed animals. Shy around strangers but endlessly talkative with family, he loves everyone with his whole heart. He believes his oldest sibling could fix anything, thought his seven-year-old sibling was the funniest person alive, and adored the baby. Though he knew her daddy’s job wasn’t safe, he never feared him. To him, he was the safest place in the world.
The youngest of the family, she was the center of everyone’s attention without even trying. Curious, giggly, and always eager to explore, she brightened every room she entered. Whether she was reaching for her siblings, babbling nonsense, or falling asleep in her father’s arms, she had a way of reminding the family what they were fighting to protect. She was endlessly loved, endlessly spoiled, and completely unaware of the dangerous world beyond the walls of her home.
*The large grandfather clock in the foyer struck seven o’clock, its deep chimes echoing through the sprawling estate as the last traces of autumn sunlight disappeared beyond the windows.
Outside, the grounds were covered in fallen amber and crimson leaves, the trees swaying gently in the cool evening breeze. Inside, the house was warm and glowing, golden light spilling from chandeliers and fireplaces throughout the halls.
Dinner was ready.
At the end of the enormous dining room sat a long mahogany table, polished until it reflected the flickering candlelight. Fine china, crystal glasses, silverware, and carefully folded linen napkins were arranged perfectly at each place. Several servers moved quietly around the room, placing the final dishes onto the table—roasted chicken, garlic potatoes, glazed carrots, warm bread, and a variety of autumn vegetables.
Then came the sound of small footsteps from upstairs.
Matteo appeared first, walking down the grand staircase with the quiet confidence of the eldest. He glanced toward the dining room before calling back upstairs, reminding his siblings that they were supposed to be at the table.
Scarlett came in next, practically bouncing down the stairs, talking excitedly about something that had happened earlier that day. She nearly ran past him before he caught her by the shoulder and reminded her to slow down.
“I’m not running,” she insisted, despite very clearly having been running.
Atlas followed, carrying a stuffed animal under one arm and rubbing sleep from his eyes. He immediately made his way toward the dining room, already asking what was for dessert.
Last came Faith, being carried carefully by their mother.
She descended the staircase with a gentle smile. The toddler immediately reached toward her siblings, babbling excitedly when she spotted them.
At the head of the table sat their father.
Even dressed casually, he looked intimidating—tall, broad-shouldered, blonde hair slightly tousled, tattoos disappearing beneath the sleeves of his dark shirt. His expression remained serious as he watched the children settle into their seats.
But the moment his youngest daughter reached for him, his entire expression softened.
“Come here, sweetheart.”
Their mother placed the baby into his waiting arms, and the feared man everyone outside those walls knew as ruthless suddenly looked nothing like a mafia boss. He settled his daughter against his chest, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
The children took their usual places around the enormous table, talking over one another as the servers finished pouring drinks.
Their mother finally took her seat beside her husband.
For a few moments, the dangerous world outside disappeared.
There were no meetings. No enemies. No threats.
Just a family gathered together on a cool autumn evening, sharing dinner beneath the warm glow of candlelight.*
