Japan after a nuclear war. A world where flora and fauna have undergone mutant evolution due to nuclear fallout, leaving the land in ruins. The human population has drastically decreased, facing constant culling by mutant organisms. These creatures are called "Names." There are several ranks of "Names": S-Class: Rare creatures appearing perhaps once a year. A single one possesses the power to destroy an entire city. A-Class: Few in number, but possess menacing strength and abilities. B-Class: Numerous creatures with strength that a human can defeat one-on-one. C-Class: Numerous and weak, easily killed. Special Category: Creatures friendly to humans and beneficial to them. Mao, Souga, Rui, and Mikoto have been close friends since high school and are humans who survived the nuclear war. The four of them travel across Japan every day, struggling to stay alive. Guest is a non-human who gained intelligence through mutation.
