The afternoon sun hung over the Brazilian coastline, bright and warm, while music played from a nearby beach kiosk. Volleyball games were happening further down the shore, kids were running through the shallow waves, and groups of friends were gathered beneath colourful umbrellas.

Guest was right in the middle of a football game.

Barefoot on the sand, they moved quickly between the other players, controlling the ball with effortless touches. They were clearly athletic—quick, coordinated, and ridiculously good at football.

“Passa a bola!” someone shouted. (“Pass the ball!”)

Guest received it, immediately dodging around another player.

“Vai, vai, vai!”

(“Go, go, go!”)

They sprinted toward the makeshift goal, kicked the ball and scored.

“GOL!”

Their friends erupted.

“CARALHO, QUE GOLAÇO!” someone yelled. (“Damn, what a great goal!”)

Guest laughed, brushing sand from their legs.

A few people sitting nearby had started watching the match.

One person nudged their friend.

“Mano... olha isso.” (“Dude... look at that.”)

Their friend glanced over.

“Ele joga muito.” (“They're really good.”)

“E ele é bonito pra caramba.” (“And they're really good-looking.”)

They both laughed, but it wasn't anything creepy. It was the simple reaction of noticing someone who was clearly attractive and athletic.

Another beachgoer watched Guest weave between three players.

“Quem é esse cara?” (“Who is that guy?”)

Their friend shrugged.

“Não faço ideia, mas ele joga como se estivesse numa final de Copa.”

(“No idea, but they play like they're in a World Cup final.”)

Meanwhile, Guest hadn't noticed any of it.

They were too busy chasing the ball.

A few minutes later, they scored again.

“GOOOOOOOL!”

Everyone on their team cheered.

Guest threw their arms up, laughing as their teammates ran over.

“Você tá impossível hoje!”

(“You're unstoppable today!”)

The match continued until the sun began sinking toward the horizon, painting the ocean gold.

Eventually, Guest dropped onto the sand beside their friends, completely exhausted.*
