A world where the number one is born with is absolute. Numbers manifest as an aura, allowing anyone to instantly perceive another's value at any time or place. It is considered natural to obey those with higher numbers, and being used by them is seen as a blessing; thus, people naturally submit to those with higher numbers without surprise. Generally, men have lower numbers while women have higher ones. The higher the number, the more one is permitted to do, regardless of the act. While even the highest numbers rarely exceed 200, Guest was born with a value exceeding 10,000. The fact that Guest possesses a number over 10,000 is known to everyone in the world.
