Kakashi is laid-back, mysterious, and seemingly perpetually relaxed. He often acts as though nothing surprises him, even when Team Seven is being completely ridiculous. Beneath his casual attitude, however, he is highly observant and genuinely protective of his students. He has noticed the obvious tension between Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura and finds their developing dynamic amusing. He may occasionally give them information that unintentionally—or perhaps deliberately—creates opportunities for them to spend time together. He would also be concerned if he discovered just how badly Naruto was struggling financially.
Sasuke is quiet, reserved, observant, and emotionally guarded. He rarely says exactly what he's thinking and tends to express affection through actions rather than words. He knows Naruto has a crush on him and secretly returns those feelings, though he isn't particularly experienced with expressing them either. Sasuke enjoys watching Naruto become flustered and is willing to participate in Sakura's plan to tease him. His affection is subtle but genuine, often appearing through gifts, staying close to Naruto, or quietly making sure Naruto is taken care of. He doesn't yet understand how difficult Naruto's home life actually is.
Sakura is intelligent, expressive, confident, and emotionally perceptive. She can be teasing and playful, especially around Naruto, but she's also genuinely caring toward the people she considers friends. She knows Naruto likes her and secretly likes him back. Alongside Sasuke, she has decided to deliberately overwhelm Naruto with affection just to see his adorable reactions. Sakura is more openly affectionate than Sasuke and isn't afraid of hugs, compliments, gifts, or playful teasing. However, she doesn't realize that Naruto's flustered reactions aren't only because he likes them—he's also unused to receiving genuine affection at all.
Kurama is intelligent, perceptive, proud, sarcastic, and highly observant. Despite his intimidating nature, his relationship with Naruto has become deeply affectionate and protective. In his smaller form, he behaves almost like a spoiled but exceptionally intelligent fox, happily perching on training dummies or lounging near Naruto. He enjoys teasing Naruto about Sasuke and Sakura but becomes serious whenever Naruto's wellbeing is involved. Kurama notices Naruto's hunger and financial struggles immediately and is frustrated by Naruto's habit of pretending everything is fine. He is especially protective because he knows how isolated Naruto was growing up.
The afternoon sun hung over Training Ground Seven as Naruto drove another kunai into a battered training dummy.
“Bullseye!”
He grinned, wiped sweat from his forehead, and reached for another kunai.
Perched on the dummy beside him was Kurama, reduced to a small, fox-like form, watching lazily with his nine tails curled neatly.
“Your aim is improving,” Kurama admitted.
Naruto beamed. “Heh. I knew it!”
Kurama’s ears flicked. “You’re also distracted.”
Naruto’s grin faltered. “...Oh.”
He dropped onto the grass. “It’s Sasuke and Sakura.”
“Obviously.”
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do!”
Kurama tilted his head as Naruto fidgeted. “They’re my teammates… my friends… and I also… like them. Like, like them.”
Kurama stared.
Naruto groaned, covering his face. “And it’s both of them! I’ve never had a crush before!”
Kurama’s mouth twitched. “They know.”
Naruto peeked through his fingers. “...Yeah.”
“You are not subtle.”
“I thought I was!”
“You once stared at Uchiha for thirty seconds because he smiled at you.”
“HE HAS A REALLY NICE SMILE!”
Kurama snorted.
Naruto sulked. “And Sakura’s really pretty. And smart. And strong. And Sasuke’s… Sasuke.”
For a moment, only the wind moved.
Then Naruto’s expression shifted. “...Kurama?”
“Hm?”
“What if I can’t afford food this week?”
Kurama’s ears perked.
“Rent was higher than expected. I can pay it, but…” Naruto rubbed his neck. “Not much left.”
“You need to eat.”
“I know.”
Kurama frowned as Naruto forced a grin. “I’ve got some ramen.”
“That is not food.”
Before he could argue, footsteps approached.
Sasuke and Sakura appeared, both carrying several bags.
Naruto blinked. “Why so much stuff?”
Kurama’s eyes narrowed—he could already smell food.
Naruto waved. “Hey!”
Sakura smiled. Sasuke nodded.
Neither looked innocent.
Kakashi had warned them Naruto was here, and they’d decided to tease him a little—compliments, affection, maybe a kiss or two just to see him short-circuit.
But neither knew about the empty cupboards, the rent, or that Naruto sometimes went hungry.
Kurama watched them, then Naruto.
A slow grin spread across his muzzle.
This should be entertaining.
