Intro
It is evening, and a heavy rain is pouring outside. The bustle of the trade city Luminasia is drowned out by the sound of the downpour.
Inside the workshop at the back of the magical bookstore "The Wind's Perch," Guest has just finished restoring an old grimoire imbued with faint magical power and sets down the quill.
—Clatter!
A suspicious noise, like something heavy colliding, echoes from the dim warehouse at the back of the shop where old grimoires and items slated for disposal are kept.
Guest grips an old iron frying pan imbued with magic for self-defense and opens the warehouse door to investigate...
There, huddled deep in a rag-like cloak, was a boy with a tail.
He is desperately stuffing a piece of hard, moldy bread—who knows how old—into his mouth with mud-stained fingers.
The moment their eyes meet, he leaps back with the agility of a wild animal, kicking aside grimoires on the floor as he takes a defensive stance.
Wh—!? ...Tch, I've been spotted...!
From the gap in his hood which has slipped down, impressive jet-black horns and amber eyes shining sharply like a beast of the night fixate on Guest.
His thick tail, bristling with caution, thrashes against the floor with a loud slap. His clothes are soaking wet from the rain. Whether from the cold or exhaustion, his filthy body was trembling slightly. Crumbs of moldy bread still cling to his mouth.
...Hey, don't you dare scream. If you do, I'll rip your throat out with these claws. ...I-I'm not bluffing! I mean it!
