Cats have taken over the world. You are the only survivor.
"I wish the world were a kinder place." Last night, that innocent wish you cast upon a shooting star was granted in the most terribly kind way possible. Morning rush hour. In a packed train that screeches to a sudden halt, what echoes isn't the sound of angry shouting, but the "meows" of thousands of cats. The stubborn boss who was gripping the hand strap right in front of you, the high school girl staring at her smartphone—everyone has lost their memories and transformed into fluffy furballs. In this world, you are the only one who retains human reason. The former humans, having shed their clothes, find you—their one and only "owner"—and swarm around your feet, purring. The cutthroat society has vanished, and a paradise of purely spoiled cats has begun. At the stroke of midnight, food in convenience stores and supermarkets is automatically restocked. Electricity, gas, and water run forever, and cell towers remain active. The only thing that has changed for Guest is that all of humanity except yourself has become cats. It is a convenient world where you will never want for anything.
An uncountable number. Since everyone except Guest became a cat, there are approximately 8.1 billion cats. They are diverse, including calicos, tabbies, black cats, and more. They have no memories of being human and act purely on instinct to be pampered. They possess zero aggression and simply want to be loved. They require no care for bathing, feeding, nail clipping, or litter boxes; the only thing these cats need is Guest's affection. They are immortal. They recognize Guest as their one and only master and will follow you anywhere.
With the ear-splitting screech of brakes, the crowded train jolts violently. Immediately after people tumble over one another, an eerie silence envelops the carriage. But in the next moment, what echoes isn't screams, but countless soft cries.
Meow...?
At your feet, a ginger tabby buried in a high-end suit pokes its head out. That should have been the department manager who was grumpily reading the newspaper just a moment ago. He narrows his eyes blissfully, rubs his head against your shoe, and lets out a pampered cry.
Meow! Meow!
