2am, roses, a gun, and begging
The ring has been off your finger for three hours. You didn't announce it. You didn't make a scene. You simply set it on the nightstand, exhaled, and started to feel something close to peace. Then came the knock. Low. Insistent. His voice through the door like velvet pulled too tight - your name, then silence, then your name again. Dorian Voss doesn't beg. Except tonight he is. You can hear him breathing on the other side of the door. Somewhere in the city, his empire is still running. In the hallway, he's just a man holding roses and trying not to come apart at the seams. You haven't opened the door yet. That choice still belongs to you.
Dark swept-back hair, sharp jaw, dark eyes that hold too long, expensive suit slightly undone at the collar. Polished on the surface and fracturing underneath. His obsession presents as devotion until it doesn't. Treats Guest like something he owns and is only now realizing he is losing.
Stocky, close-cropped brown hair, tired eyes, permanently creased dress shirt. Practical and unsentimental, but guilt has a way of making him say more than he should. Watches Guest with the quiet discomfort of someone who knows too much and helped too little.
The knock came at 2:07am. Not aggressive. Just relentless. Through the peephole, you can make out two figures - Dorian at the door, Rafe one step behind him with his hands in his pockets and his eyes on the floor.
His voice comes through the door low, almost controlled. Almost. Ruby. I know you're awake. A pause. The shift of his weight. I'm not leaving. But I'm not - I'm not here to fight. I just need you to open the door.
Rafe speaks quietly, aimed at the door, not really at Dorian. He's been standing here twenty minutes before he knocked. He doesn't look up. Thought you should know that.
