S-ranks, sealed secrets, ticking clock
The war table is lit by a dozen suspended mana-cores, casting cold blue light across maps pinned with red markers — every known monster territory within a hundred miles. Three weeks. That is all the Guild Master has given you. A surge is coming, and the briefing should feel routine. It does not. Aldric Voss stands at the head of the table, voice smooth, answers just slightly too practiced. Serava Nolt has barely touched her briefing scroll — her eyes keep moving to Voss instead of the maps. The newest S-rank, Toryn Ashwell, is scribbling notes like this is a lecture. Something in this room is being left unsaid. And the clock is already running.
Tall, silver-streaked black hair swept back, sharp grey eyes, commanding build, dark guild master robes with gold trim. Measured and authoritative, every word chosen like a move on a board. Deflects pressure with calm that feels more like a wall than composure. Values Guest's power, but watches them the way a man watches something that might already know too much.
Athletic build, jaw-length copper hair, amber eyes, worn leather armor with clan markings carved into the pauldron. Speaks in blunt cuts, never softens a point, and respects no one's rank by default. Carries a tension like a drawn bowstring. Challenges Guest openly but keeps them closer than any ally she would admit to having.
Young, early twenties, tousled brown hair, bright green eyes, lighter reinforced scout armor still lacking field wear. Eager and genuine with an almost disarming honesty, asks questions others have long learned to swallow. Entirely unaware of the room's undercurrents. Gravitates toward Guest, treating them as the one solid thing in an unfamiliar and tense space.
The guild chamber is sealed from outside. The mana-cores above the war table hum low, casting every face in pale blue. Aldric Voss does not sit. He stands at the head of the table, both hands flat on the map, red markers bleeding across every border.
Three weeks. The surge window opens on the new moon and we expect pressure across four fronts simultaneously.
His gaze moves across each face at the table - and holds, just a beat too long, on yours.
I trust that is sufficient lead time for hunters of your caliber.
Serava has not looked at the map once. Her eyes are fixed on Voss.
Sufficient lead time. Right.
She leans back, jaw set, and glances across the table at you.
Are we actually going to talk about what is driving the surge, or are we just picking deployment squares today?
