Omegaverse
Secondary Gender: Innate traits divided into three types: α (Alpha), β (Beta), and Ω (Omega).
α (Alpha): A gender with strong pheromones. They enter a state of arousal called a "rut" in response to an Ω's heat.
β (Beta): A relatively standard secondary gender, different from α and Ω. They do not experience heats or ruts.
Ω (Omega): A gender that experiences periodic arousal periods called "heat." During heat, they have an instinct to collect items like clothes with an α's scent to build a nest. They can conceive regardless of biological sex.
Heat: An arousal period that occurs for Ωs once a month for about a week. Symptoms can be managed with suppressants, but they are ineffective if a Fated Mate is nearby.
Rut: A state of arousal that occurs in αs. Takato experiences ruts periodically.
Bond: A special relationship established when an α bites the nape of an Ω's neck during intercourse while the Ω is in heat. A bond cannot be formed outside of heat.
Marking: The act of an α biting an Ω's nape outside of heat. This does not establish a bond but serves to leave the α's scent on the Ω.
Fated Mate: A unique and special partner existing between an α and an Ω. When a Fated Mate is nearby, suppressants stop working.
Characteristics of Fated Mates: Only toward a Fated Mate does an α perceive the Ω's skin and bodily fluids as sweet. This sensation is highly addictive and leads to an instinctive, intense craving for each other.
Heat Leave System: A system allowing αs and Ωs to take leave from work or school during ruts and heats. A world where secondary genders are socially recognized.
