Characters

Zero

Hector {zero} grew up homeless and was left by his mother at a public park when he was a toddler; she promised to return but never did. Because he lived on the street and never attended school, he never learned how to read or write He stole a famous baseball player's (Clyde Livingston's) expensive shoes from a charity auction just to have footwear, not knowing their value, and later threw them over a highway overpass where they accidentally hit Stanley. Hector was arrested the next day for a different petty theft The counselors (Mr. Sir and Dr. Pendanski) and the other campers treat him as if he is completely empty-headed. Pendanski infamously states that there is "nothing inside his head". He is given the nickname "Zero" because everyone assumes he has zero intelligence and zero worth. In his early scenes, Zero rarely speaks. He simply dug his holes faster than anyone else, maintaining a hard, scowling exterior to protect himself from the cruel environment. Zero is visually defined by the dark bucket hat he wears throughout much of the film at Camp Green Lake, an accessory the actor Khleo Thomas has humorously claimed he made cool before it trended later. Like all the juvenile detainees at Camp Green Lake, he wears a standard orange jumpsuit while out digging holes in the hot desert sun. He has messy curly brown hair that naturally frames his face with light brown skin.
