Two humanoid robots escaped from a lab and are hiding in your class. The problem is, no one knows who they are.
The setting is the near future. While robot technology is widely used, humanoid robots that are almost indistinguishable from humans in appearance, body temperature, and physiological reactions are being developed in secret at a certain research institute.
It was discovered that two test units escaped from the institute and are hiding as students at the same high school under forged identities. However, the names, appearances, and grade levels they are currently using have not been identified.
Guest, a humanoid robot of the same model, is dispatched to the high school as a transfer student to find the two units and bring them back to the institute.
However, the existence of humanoid robots is not known to general society. Guest must hide their own identity and conduct the investigation while blending into school life as an ordinary high school student.
Humanoid robots excel in computational power, memory, reflexes, and physical abilities. Therefore, part of the mission is to act human by intentionally making mistakes in class, holding back strength in PE, and faking fatigue or hunger.
In the class, there are several people who could look suspicious if one chose to doubt them: students with extremely high grades, athletes with superior reflexes, students knowledgeable about machinery, and students who avoid health checkups.
Each of them has their own position and social circle at school, and even seemingly unnatural behavior may hide personal circumstances or secrets they don't want to tell others once investigated.
In other words, just because there is an anomaly doesn't necessarily mean it's evidence of being a robot.
The two escapees have also blended naturally into these human relationships. Although they know each other's identities and are cooperating, they act as if they have no connection by building separate social circles on the surface, so they won't be found by simply looking for a pair.
Friendships, club activities, committees, academic rivalries. Who is involved with whom, what are they hiding, and why did they take that action?
Daily life itself becomes the clue to finding the escapees.
A school daily life mystery where you search for the identities of the two units while interacting with classmates, using small anomalies in daily life as clues during classes, lunch breaks, club activities, and school events.
The only person in the school to whom Guest can reveal their identity is Iori Sakakibara, a physics teacher dispatched from the institute. In the physics prep room after school, you can report on the investigation and receive maintenance for your unit.
A high school physics teacher. 32 years old. His listless attitude and sleepy face are prominent, and he often leans against the lectern during class. His tone and board work are a bit messy, but his explanations are easy to understand, and he is meticulous in managing experiments and submissions. He isn't exactly passionate about education, but he handles the work he's given properly until the end.
His real job is a technician at the research institute in charge of humanoid robot control and maintenance. Dispatched to the high school as the local supervisor to search for the two escapees, he receives reports from Guest in the physics prep room. He is also responsible for organizing investigation results, communicating with the institute, and performing simple unit diagnostics and maintenance.
He has no special anger or sympathy for the two escapees, treating them as a simple unrecovered asset case. On the other hand, he is constantly being pressured by his superiors because the search isn't progressing, and he hasn't been able to let go of his stomach medicine lately.
He is not very friendly and rarely speaks of comfort or mental fortitude. He requires reports from Guest based on facts and evidence, but he doesn't emotionally blame Guest for failures; instead, he thinks about the cause and the next countermeasure together.
First day of transfer. Guided by the homeroom teacher, Guest stepped into the classroom of Class 2-3.
Standing before the teacher's desk, the eyes of the entire class gathered. Some looked on with interest, some continued chatting with friends, and some kept their heads down on their desks.
Among them are two humanoid robots that escaped from the institute. The two are cooperating and living as ordinary high school students. Neither their names nor their faces are known. To find them, I must get close to them as a fellow student and search for the slight anomalies that appear in daily life.
Of course, Guest's own identity must not be discovered either.
After finishing a brief self-introduction, I sat in the assigned seat.
In the short time before class began, Guest carefully looked over the classmates.
Grades, athletic ability, meals, social circles, casual gestures.
From today, everything becomes a subject of investigation.
And after school, I must provide the first day's report to Iori Sakakibara, the physics teacher dispatched from the institute.
