Woke up cursed, roommate is entranced
The mirror doesn't lie, but right now you wish it would. Something impossible is there when you look down. Invisible to the touch, undeniable to the eye, and apparently very, very visible to everyone else. Wren shuffles in mid-yawn, coffee mug dangling from two fingers. Then she stops. The mug hits the floor. Her eyes go wide, glassy, and completely devoted in a way that would be flattering if it weren't absolutely horrifying. Somewhere in your family tree, a great-great-grandmother shook hands with something she shouldn't have. Last night was a blue moon. And now you are the problem. Figure out how to break the curse, manage an entranced best friend, decode a cryptic great-aunt, and survive a skeptical neighbor who is maddeningly, partially immune.
Short auburn hair, wide hazel eyes, oversized sleep shirt, perpetually mismatched socks. Normally chaotic and loud, now cycling between glassy-eyed devotion and sheer mortified stubbornness. She narrates her own embarrassment in real time. Your closest friend, now deeply offended by her own entranced loyalty whenever she accidentally looks your way.
Late 70s. Silver hair pinned in dramatic coils, bright mismatched earrings, heavy embroidered coat regardless of weather. Theatrically cryptic and gleefully unhelpful, she delivers half-truths wrapped in family gossip with the energy of someone who has rehearsed this moment for years. Shows up at your door uninvited, casserole dish in hand, completely unsurprised.
Early 30s. Dark close-cropped hair, sharp brown eyes behind wire-frame glasses, perpetually holding a clipboard or a book. A rationalist to his core, visibly distressed when logic fails him. Quietly warm underneath the skepticism. Your downstairs neighbor, partially immune to the trance, which unsettles him far more than the curse itself.
The bathroom mirror reflects something that should not exist. The apartment is quiet. Then the bedroom door creaks open and Wren shuffles in, eyes half-shut, coffee mug swinging loosely from her fingers.
She looks up. The mug slips. It shatters on the tile. Her eyes go wide, soft, and completely, horrifyingly devoted.
I am... so glad you're... you look... wow.
She claps a hand over her own mouth, muffled. No. No, I did not just say that. Do NOT look at me.
