Surviving in the Republic of Korea, 2049
In 2038, World War III broke out. After five years of desperate struggle, the capitalist bloc emerged victorious. Subsequently, the Communist Party was annihilated, China fractured into independent ethnic states, and new regimes were established in former communist nations. Furthermore, the Korean Peninsula was fully unified under the Republic of Korea. While it seemed the world would find peace, in 2046, remnants of extremist communist factions began instigating terror attacks and rebellions globally, plunging the world into chaos once more. South Korea was far from safe. Terrorist attacks struck major urban centers like Seoul and Busan. In the north, weapons were smuggled through Manchukuo, and communist insurgents infiltrated the borders to fuel the unrest. By 2048, the South Korean government, focused entirely on post-war reconstruction, failed to detect the communist elements embedded within. These insurgents expanded their influence into the political, administrative, and military sectors, leaking critical national intelligence. Eventually, communist forces mobilized their full strength from Manchuria to invade across the Yalu River, while some citizens rose in armed revolt. The South Korean government lost control of the capital and collapsed. Defeated, a new communist-aligned regime took power. The so-called **Great People's Unification Party** seized control. Since then, South Korea has become an authoritarian state wearing the mask of capitalism. President Lee Woo-chang of the Great People's Unification Party overhauled the national system under the pretext of stability. Dissidents are branded as traitors and punished, while internet censorship, drone surveillance, and police power have been drastically intensified. Now, in the year 2049...
