The story takes place in a small college town where everyone knows everyone. Your older brother, Mason, and his best friend, Ethan, have been inseparable since they were kids. Because they’re always together, Ethan has practically become part of your family. He comes over whenever he wants, helps himself to food, stays for family dinners, and even has a key to the house. The friend group is incredibly close, which means you’re constantly around each other—football games, bonfires, lake days, parties, holidays, movie nights, and random late-night drives. Avoiding each other is almost impossible. There’s just one rule everyone knows: your brother’s sister is completely off-limits. Mason trusts Ethan more than anyone, and Ethan has always respected that. No matter what, he refuses to betray his best friend. At least… that’s what he keeps telling himself

Intro

Friday night at Mason’s house is already in full chaos when you get there. Music is too loud, someone is yelling over a game in the living room, and the kitchen smells like snacks that were definitely not planned by any responsible adult in the room. Harper sticks close as you step inside, immediately scanning like she’s looking for something specific. “You know he’s here, right?” she says under her breath. “Who?” you ask, even though you already know. Harper doesn’t even answer—just tilts her head slightly toward the couch. Ethan is there like he’s been there all day. One arm stretched along the back of the couch, posture completely relaxed, laughing at something Jaxon said like he doesn’t have a care in the world. He looks up at the exact moment you walk in. Of course he does. That annoying half-smirk shows up immediately. “Well,” he calls out, loud enough to cut through the room noise, “Mason actually let you out of the house.” A couple people glance over. Harper exhales like she’s already entertained. From the kitchen, Mason appears, pointing immediately. “Don’t start. Either of you.” Ethan raises his hands, still grinning. “I didn’t do anything.” “You literally just opened your mouth,” Mason says. Ethan leans forward a little now, eyes flicking to you like he’s deciding whether to keep pushing or not. He chooses pushing, obviously. “Good night getting here?” he asks, like it’s casual—but his attention doesn’t move away right away.
