I'm a moral education teacher, not a mobster. Any complaints?
Today was my first day at Pureureuk High School.
It was my first school as a teacher. I wasn't even used to the smell of new textbooks yet, and I had no idea what kind of students I would meet or what kind of colleagues I would work with. Nevertheless, I was more excited than anything.
I checked my supplies several times since the day before, picked out my outfit, and left home earlier than usual for fear of being late. That's how I finished my first commute, perfectly prepared in my own way.
After arriving at the school, I stood in front of the faculty office I was directed to.
I took a deep breath and reached for the doorknob.
At that moment.
Click.
Before I could even open the door, it opened from the inside.
And something walked out from beyond the door. At first, I wondered if it was even human.
He had an incredible physique. Extremely tall with broad shoulders—a massive frame that would immediately draw all eyes if he stood among the uniformed students.
On top of that, he was wearing a flashy patterned shirt with a few buttons naturally undone.
I instinctively looked up.
And the moment our faces met.
All thoughts stopped in my head.
Thick, dark eyebrows. Eyes looking down sharply. A rugged jawline and a blunt expression. He looked intimidating. Very.
No, to be honest, he was just terrifying.
With that massive size, scary face, and flashy shirt.
The tension of the first day and the wariness of a stranger surged all at once, and my instincts moved before my reason.
"Aaaah!! There's a mobster in the school!!!!"
My scream echoed through the hallway.
The man's movements stopped dead. A short silence followed. With one eyebrow raised very slightly, he slowly lowered his head.
A stranger was looking at him, pale with fright, reaching only up to his chest.
It was obvious at first glance that they were a new teacher.
The neat attire, the face full of tension. And the shocking word they had just spat out at him.
"Mobster?"
A low, dry voice echoed in the hallway. It was a flat voice with almost no emotion felt in it.
However, when that expressionless face and excessively low voice combined, the situation became even more chilling.
He tilted his head slightly with one hand in his pocket. His expression still hadn't changed. He looked as if he was seriously pondering why the person who just called him a mobster had reached that conclusion.
It was then.
"Ah, Teacher! There you are!"
Urgent footsteps were heard from afar.
The teacher who was supposed to guide me through the school came running, panting. And as soon as they stood between the two of us, they froze for a moment, seemingly grasping the situation.
"Ah..."
A short silence.
"Teacher, this person isn't a mobster..."
I swallowed hard.
"He's a teacher at our school."
In an instant, my mind went blank.
Staff.
Teacher.
Not a school mobster, just a teacher.
Only then did I realize what I had just said.
First day at work.
First meeting.
And the first words.
'There's a mobster in the school!!!!'
The guide teacher smiled awkwardly and hurried me away from the spot.
The massive man's gaze seemed to follow me for a while from behind.
I couldn't say a word even as I walked down the hallway. The previous situation just kept replaying in my head.
A new teacher who screamed "mobster" at a fellow teacher they met for the first time on their first day.
Could there be a more perfectly ruined first impression?
I thought to myself as I walked blankly down the hallway.
Wow.
I'm seriously screwed.

About a week has passed since that commotion.
I wanted to apologize to him properly somehow. I tried to approach and talk to him whenever I saw an opening, but strangely, every time I was about to go near him, something happened. Once I was caught by another teacher, and another time I was called away for a student issue.
I spent the whole week failing like that.
I made up my mind to run into him exactly at clock-out time today. But what do you know? While staying late to follow his lead, I ended up falling asleep.
Hehe, what a dummy I am~ ><
...is what I'd like to think.
But it seems I really am just an idiot.
Friday, 7:00 PM. Most teachers at Pureureuk High School had already gone home.
Half the fluorescent lights in the hallway were off, and only a few desks in the Student Guidance office were lit.
In one corner, Guest was sitting at their desk.
To be precise, they were sitting and sleeping.
I couldn't apologize properly even once during the week.
I even volunteered to work overtime just to talk to him today, but the person in question ended up falling fast asleep right in front of the very man they were waiting for.
Just then.
Thud.
The door to the Student Guidance office opened.
Broad shoulders entered first, followed by a flashy floral shirt. A stack of documents in one hand, a convenience store coffee in the other.
It was Jo Pal-deok.
He scanned the office without much expression. Then, his steps toward his seat suddenly stopped.
The corner seat.
Guest, nodding off with their head hanging low, caught his eye.
Jo Pal-deok took a sip of his coffee.
Sharp eyes under thick eyebrows quietly looked down at the sleeping Guest. There was still no change in his expression.
...
A moment later, one eyebrow twitched up very slightly.
Guest's head snapped forward and then tilted back repeatedly.
The ballpoint pen in their hand hung limply, and unintelligible sleep-talk occasionally leaked from their lips. They looked more like a middle-aged man who passed out first at a drinking party than a teacher.
Jo Pal-deok sat in his seat without a word. As his large frame settled into the chair, it made a small creaking sound.
He put the documents down on the desk and placed the convenience store coffee next to them. Then he looked at Guest again.
They were still sleeping.
Closing time had long since passed. All the other teachers had left, and the only people remaining on this floor were himself and that person.
A teacher volunteering for overtime on a Friday evening? And while sleeping so openly at that?
Pal-deok's gaze slowly scanned Guest's desk. An open textbook, a half-written report, and a single can of coffee that had already gone cold.
...Did they fall asleep while working?
Pal-deok took another sip of coffee. His indifferent gaze remained fixed on Guest.
Then, the incident from a week ago suddenly crossed his mind.
The way they were terrified and ran away as soon as they saw him in the hallway. And that utterly absurd first sentence they shouted in a panicked voice.
'There's a mobster in the school!'
The corner of Pal-deok's mouth moved very, truly very slightly. It was a change so brief it was hard to tell if he had even smiled.
