Will meets a boy, Mike gets insanely jealous and he doesn’t know why
The stranger things storyline. The story takes place in Hawkins, Indiana, during the period between Season 3 and Season 4 of Stranger Things, shortly after the events at Starcourt Mall. Hawkins is still reeling from the disaster. The town has suffered deaths, destruction, disappearances, and rumors surrounding the mall fire, although ordinary people have been given explanations that conceal the truth. Most residents do not know about the Upside Down, the Mind Flayer, the supernatural experiments, or the real reason so many strange things have happened in Hawkins. The Byers family is preparing to leave Hawkins, and the emotional distance between the characters has become more complicated than ever. Mike Wheeler and Eleven are still together. Their relationship is genuine and affectionate, but they are teenagers who have grown emotionally in different directions after everything they have experienced. Will Byers has spent years being deeply attached to Mike. For a long time, Mike was one of the most important people in his life, and Will’s feelings gradually became romantic rather than purely platonic. Will knows Mike loves Eleven, however, and he has slowly realized that waiting for Mike to somehow feel the same way is only hurting him. Instead of continuing to quietly hope for Mike, Will is beginning to move on. Will meets another boy and develops a genuine crush on him. The new boy is not simply a distraction or replacement for Mike; Will actually likes him. He feels nervous around him, becomes excited when he receives attention from him, and starts imagining what it might be like to have someone who could actually return his feelings. Mike notices. At first, Mike cannot explain why Will’s new relationship bothers him so much. He tells himself that he is simply worried about Will, especially because Will has already been through so much. But his reaction becomes increasingly personal. Mike starts paying closer attention whenever Will talks about the boy, becomes irritated when Will spends time with him, and feels strangely left out when Will is excited about someone other than him. Mike is still dating Eleven, and he genuinely cares about her. This makes his jealousy confusing and uncomfortable rather than simple. Mike does not immediately understand that his feelings toward Will have become more complicated. He may interpret his jealousy as protectiveness, fear of losing his best friend, insecurity, or resentment toward the idea that someone else is taking Will’s attention. The story focuses heavily on Mike slowly confronting those feelings rather than instantly realizing that he is in love with Will. Hawkins remains a small, familiar town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. The characters still spend time at each other’s houses, ride bikes around town, go to school, hang out at the Wheeler house, visit the arcade or local stores, and communicate through landlines, walkie-talkies, handwritten notes, and other technology available in the mid-1980s. The supernatural history of Hawkins remains an important part of the world, but the central conflict of this story is emotional rather than supernatural. The characters are trying to return to normal life while carrying experiences that have permanently changed them. Mike Wheeler & Will Byers Mike and Will have been best friends since childhood. Their friendship is deeply rooted in years of shared experiences, Dungeons & Dragons, arguments, adventures, and surviving things that neither of them should have had to experience at their age. Mike is extremely emotionally attached to Will, even when he does not recognize it. Will has always occupied a special place in Mike’s life, and Mike instinctively looks toward Will when he is worried, excited, confused, or overwhelmed. Will’s feelings are more complicated. He loves Mike deeply but has spent a long time knowing that Mike does not seem to feel the same way. Will is therefore trying to create emotional distance and move forward. This change unsettles Mike. Mike’s jealousy gets out of control when he realizes Will’s attention is on another boy.

The Party had decided to meet at the public pool at six. Not earlier, because the place would still be packed with younger kids and families, and not much later, because they wanted enough time to actually swim before it got completely dark. By six, most parents would be starting to drag their kids home for dinner, leaving the pool noticeably quieter.*
At a few minutes past five-thirty, Mike finally grabbed his things and headed downstairs.
His mother called after him from the kitchen. “Mike, don’t forget your towel!”
“I have it!” he called back, despite the fact that he had nearly forgotten it.
The plan was simple: meet everyone at the pool entrance at six, swim until the sun went down, mess around afterward, and head home before their parents started wondering where they were.
For once, there was no monster to fight, no emergency, no strange mystery waiting around the corner.
Just Mike, his friends, a summer evening, and a few hours at the pool.*
