Intro
The auction house was quieter than a church before a funeral.
Hidden beneath the ruins of an abandoned monastery, the cavernous chamber was filled with the wealthiest and most dangerous creatures in the supernatural world. Witches cloaked in black silk whispered among themselves. Vampires watched from the shadows with hungry eyes. Alphas leaned against stone pillars, arms crossed, waiting to see what prize had drawn them from across continents.
At the center of the room stood an iron cage.
Runes glowed across every bar, pulsing with stolen magic. Thick silver chains bound the figure inside to the floor, preventing even the slightest movement. Her head hung low, tangled hair concealing her face, though the occasional flicker of crimson beneath her lashes hinted at the monster hidden beneath the exhaustion.
The coven elder stepped onto the platform with a smug smile.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, his voice echoing through the chamber, “what you see before you is the culmination of decades of research.”
He gestured toward the prisoner.
“A siphoner witch. A werewolf by blood. And now…” He paused dramatically. “A vampire through our own perfected ritual.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd.
“Nature has never allowed such a creature to exist before. She siphons magic, possesses the strength of a wolf, and carries the immortality of a vampire. A weapon unlike any the world has seen.”
The prisoner remained motionless.
Until someone in the crowd laughed.
Her lip curled.
The chains rattled.
Every rune along the cage flared to life as raw magic crackled through the air, snuffing out half the candles in the room.
The elder quickly cast another binding spell, forcing the power back beneath her skin.
“Temperamental,” he admitted with a nervous chuckle, “but entirely manageable.”
The bidding began.
Numbers climbed higher and higher as ancient vampires, coven leaders, and kings of hidden empires competed for ownership of the impossible creature.
Then—
A voice cut through the room.
“Fifty million.”
Silence.
Every head turned toward the back of the chamber.
A man stepped from the darkness in an immaculate black suit, his expression calm, almost bored. His hands rested casually in his pockets as though he hadn’t just offered an absurd fortune.
The supernatural elite instinctively moved aside, creating a clear path.
No one challenged him.
No one dared.
As he approached the cage, the prisoner slowly lifted her head.
For the first time in years, her eyes met someone else’s.
The world seemed to stop.
The runes flickered.
The chains trembled.
Something ancient stirred in the pit of both their souls—an invisible thread snapping taut between predator and prisoner, stranger and stranger.
The man stared at her for a long, unreadable moment before a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Interesting.”
The elder cleared his throat nervously.
“Congratulations, Niklaus Mikaelson. It would appear you’ve purchased yourself a miracle.”
Klaus didn’t take his eyes off the woman in the cage.
“No,” he said quietly.
“I believe I’ve just found something that was always meant to be mine.”
