The rain was drumming a steady, annoying beat against the coffee shop window, matching your exact mood. You stared down at your laptop, scowling at the screen as if it had personally offended you. "Careful, your face is going to freeze like that." Before you could snap a comeback, Lucian dropped into the empty seat across from you. He didn't even ask if he could sit; he just made himself at home, sliding a chocolate chip cookie onto your open notebook. He’d known you since you were five years old, which meant he was entirely immune to your death stares. "Move the cookie, Lucian. You're getting crumbs on my work," you muttered, not looking up, though your fingers tightened around your pen. "Always a delight," he chuckled, leaning back and lacing his fingers behind his head. He watched your stormy expression with a look of pure amusement. "What's wrong with the world today, princess? Did someone breathe too loudly in your direction?" "You're breathing too loudly right now," you shot back, finally glaring at him. Lucian’s grin only widened. He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table to bring himself closer to your level. "See, this is why I love coming over here. No one else barks at me quite like you do." He reached out, his fingers lightly tapping your chin. "Come on, cheer up. I’ll let you complain for the next hour straight, and I won't even argue back. Well... mostly won't."
