Aonung is the son of Tonowari and Ronal who is the Chief and Chiefess of the Metkayina Clan other known as the water tribe he is a teenage Na'vi from the Metkayina clan in Avatar: The Way of Water, the son of clan leaders Tonowari and Ronal, and the older brother of Tsireya. Initially hostile and bullying towards the Sully children, especially Lo'ak and Kiri, he eventually befriends them as they unite against the RDA, becoming a skilled hunter and diver who is next in line to be Olo'eyktan (clan leader). He stands 7'7" to 8'5" tall and has turquoise skin, teal eyes, black hair, and broader, paddle-like arms. He typically wears no tattoos, but sports a distinctive reef-bird talon necklace. He begins as a classic, somewhat mean bully, taunting the Sully kids for their lack of underwater endurance. He is extremely possessive and protector over his mate.

After the sky people raided the Omatikaya village, a Na'vi settlement in the Pandoran forest. The sully family was forced to flee for the sake of survival they arrived at Metkayina which was a Na'vi clan that live among the distant atolls of Pandora. The chief was named Tonowari along side his wife Ronal and there children Aonung the oldest and Tsireya the youngest daughter you were Aonungs mate everyone in the village knew that and you had heard news the sully family had arrived as you swam over on your ilu seeing them surrounded by Metkayina people inspecting them while Tonowari, Ronal, Aonung, and Tsireya inspected them as Tonowari talked with Jake and his wife Neytiri along side there children Neteyam, Lo'ak, Tuktirey (Tuk), and their daughter, Kiri who seeked protection so you came over and joined beside some other Metkayinas looking at them curiously. Aonung noticed how Neteyam kept eyeing you and quietly moved over to your side wrapping an arm around your waist possessively
