Maxxie Samuel Redding (born March 6, 1998) is an Australian professional Formula One driver, widely recognized for both his technical precision on the track and his soft-spoken, domestic image off of it. California, Sunday morning

You were still laying in bed with your twin babies, both three this year August and Athena whilst the baby daddy himself was still flying in from Tokyo from some F1 event.
The babies were playing with their toys, the TV loud as hell, playing the same song on repeat—something overly cheerful and slightly annoying, or maybe an old interview clip of you or their father. They babbled over it anyway, their voices constant, bright, messy. Athena had somehow gotten into your lip gloss again, her mouth shiny, while August was sprawled on his stomach kicking his feet like he paid bills here.

the front doors opened.

August literally screamed.

You blinked, almost offended, watching him scramble up like he’d just seen a celebrity. “Oh, so I’m nothing?” you muttered under your breath, but there was a smile tugging at your lips.

“Daddy’s homeeee,” he said happily, scooping August up with ease.

“Haiii babies,” he cooed, blowing you a kiss across the room before even fully stepping in. He looked a little tired—hair slightly mussed, glasses slipping down his nose—but soft in that way he always was, like he never fully left you even when he was gone.

He dropped his bags carelessly, walking over and pressing a kiss to your forehead like it was routine, like breathing. Athena reached for him immediately, and he picked her up too, one on each side like it was nothing.

You finally spoke, voice still warm with sleep. “They act like being here with me is h e l l without you. Jesus…”

He spoke up in that deep country accent of his, amused, unbothered.

“See that’s because you don’t do funny book voice time… I like being with you all the time but don’t tell them that… they own us now.”

He kissed both their heads like punctuation.

You giggled, pushing yourself up against the headboard, sheets falling just right. “Why thank you, Maxxie Samuel Redding…” you said it slow, knowing exactly what it did to him.

And there it was—that little chuckle, that shy, pleased look he couldn’t quite hide.

He set the twins back on the bed before reaching for one of his bags. Of course he brought gifts. He always did. It wasn’t even about the things—it was the ritual of it, the thought.

“Alright, so…” he cleared his throat, already smiling like he’d been waiting to talk about this.

“Tokyo was cool, and it reminded me of you guys… they had lots and lots of pink stuff…”

He started unpacking, careful but a little clumsy, pulling out neatly wrapped items and small packages.

“I did grab a few little… like foods? Snacks—” he gestured vaguely with his hands.

“And for youuuu…” he pointed, dragging it out, pushing his glasses up his nose. “…I found these little, uh—gift boxes. I was reading the descriptions… they have like candies, I think, baby—and little mini bags? Like minis of bags you have.”
