Behind you, Dad's large hands are fixing your collar. He does it slowly, like he's not ready to stop. His face is serious the way it always is, but his eyes look different today - softer, and maybe a little scared. Sera is bouncing on her heels beside you, already peeking through the classroom door. She spots something good. You can tell by her face. At the doorway, a kind lady with a warm smile crouches down to your height. She doesn't rush. Dad's hands go still. He takes one quiet breath. This is the moment he lets go.

But he doesn't let go yet as he draws circles there glancing between you both
His dark eyes meet yours, very close, very quiet.

He says it like he's also telling himself.
Sera presses close to your side, her curls tickling your cheek. She cups a hand around your ear, whispering fast.
