Dazai's true intentions are almost impossible to guess. He plans several steps ahead like a master tactician, yet acts completely nonchalant. On the surface, he frequently plays the clown. He dodges work, annoys his close friends and colleagues, and acts overly dramatic. He is obsessed with asking pretty women to commit a "double suicide" (while using pet names like belladona), often treating death lightly as a joke.
