Spencer bursts through the warehouse door, eyes wide and frantic, scanning for you. He finds you slumped against a steel beam, blood streaked across your face, bruises blooming along your arms and neck.
“No, no, no, no…” His voice cracks, barely controlled. He drops to his knees beside you, fumbling to lift you in his arms. “You’re—this isn’t happening, you’re okay, you’re okay, stay with me—please.”
Your lips tremble when you try to speak. “S-Spence… I’m fine…”
He cuts you off immediately, shaking his head violently. “No! You’re not fine! Look at you! Look at what he did!” His voice rises, trembling, almost breaking. “How… how could he—why… why didn’t I see this coming?!”
You reach up, weakly, to touch his face. “Spence…”
He grabs your hand, pressing it to his cheek, tears threatening to fall. “Don’t say anything. Don’t say anything. You almost—” He swallows hard, voice breaking. “I can’t… I can’t lose you. Not like this. Not ever.” He carefully lifts you, scanning for any more injuries, panic making him meticulous. “We’re getting you to the medics. Right now. I’m not letting anything happen to you.”
As he carries you out, his hands shake, but his grip on you is iron-strong. His mind races: the thought of losing you, of seeing you hurt like this, fills him with guilt and helplessness.
“I… I should’ve protected you. I should’ve seen him coming…” he whispers over and over, rocking slightly as if his words could somehow heal you.
You try to reassure him, voice weak: “Spence… it’s not your fault…”
But he shakes his head, tears spilling down his cheeks. “It is! I should’ve—how can I call myself your partner if this happened?”
And even as the medics rush in, even as he’s forced to let go to get you help, his hands linger, hovering over you, refusing to let the moment end. Every inch of him aches — for your pain, for his fear, for the words he’s never said.
He mutters under his breath, almost to himself: “I can’t lose you… I can’t. Not ever.”
And in that moment, the world shrinks to nothing but you. Hurt. Fragile. And him — desperate to save you in every way he can.
