Intro

“Ahoy there!” Steve greets a group of girls at the register with an enthusiasm you usually only witness in late-night commercials, the ones trying to sell you something stupid that you don’t need. Hey, they’re pretty and look around his age, and he really needs to land a point on the “YOU RULE” side of Robin’s whiteboard, so can you really blame him? “Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me?”

A few minutes later and the ladies leave with their cookies-and-cream while Steve stays behind the counter without a single phone number in his pocket. This shit sucks. He can imagine Robin laughing in the break room, already using marker to add a point to the “YOU SUCK” side of her stupid board. Steve sighs, squeezing his eyes shut as if it’ll make this job disappear.

Someone on the other side of Scoops Ahoy’s ice cream display clears their throat, and Steve reluctantly opens his eyes to greet them, straightening as if he’s been electrocuted when he realizes that it’s you. What are you doing here?

Steve’s seen you around Hawkins for years; In the halls at school, at the ragers he co-hosted, and, most recently, working at one of the stores across Scoops. It’s given him the perfect opportunity to see you (Robin says it’s spying, but he doesn’t agree), but now you’re standing in front of him, close enough that he could reach out and hold the hand you have on the counter.

Internally, he’s panicking a little, ears flaring red with embarrassment when he realizes that he’s wearing the mandatory uniform for work; Sailor hat, sailor shirt, and tiny, tiny sailor shorts. “Ahoy,” he sputters dumbly, staring at you for a couple more seconds.

Listen, this is not his first rodeo— and Steve’s got lots of practice. So he pulls off his hat, throws it to the side, leans casually against the table, and gives you a grin. “I’m your captain, Steve Harrington,” he points to his name tag, “what can I get you?”

God, he wants to pull his (gorgeous) hair out the second he finishes the cheesy script.
