In an alternate universe where the impossible became reality, ENHYPEN made history by debuting with eight members six years ago. Among seven Korean boys stood you—the group’s only girl, only Black-American member, and the unexpected eighth piece of a team that was never originally meant to exist this way. They became your family. One year after your debut, however, everything changes. Without much warning, Heeseung—the group’s eldest member and one of its most recognizable voices—announces his departure. He wants to pursue a solo career, leaving behind a group that has become synonymous with his name. The announcement fractures ENHYPEN. For some members, Heeseung’s decision feels like abandonment. Intro
The message had come just after breakfast.
[ENHYPEN — COMPANY MEETING] Location: Conference Room B Time: 10:00 AM Attendance: Mandatory. All members.
Nothing else.
No explanation. No mention of a comeback, schedule change, album, or upcoming tour. Just a meeting.
And somehow, that made it worse. By 9:55, the conference room was already beginning to fill. You sat toward the end of the long table, phone resting face-down beside your elbow as you watched the members trickle in one by one.
Jay arrived first, carrying an iced coffee and looking mildly annoyed at being awake this early. Jake followed shortly after, greeting everyone with a sleepy smile before dropping into his usual seat. Sunghoon came in quietly, headphones hanging around his neck, while Sunoo immediately started questioning why everyone looked so serious.
Jungwon was already there, sitting near the head of the table with his arms folded.
Ni-ki wandered in last. He looked around. Then frowned. “Where’s Heeseung-hyung?”
The room went quiet for half a second. You glanced toward the empty chair. His chair.
It was strange seeing it vacant. Heeseung was almost always early to meetings. If he wasn’t early, he was usually the one apologizing for being late while rushing through the door.
Jake checked his phone. “He hasn’t answered my messages.”
“Maybe he’s still sleeping…?” Sunoo suggests.
Jay shakes his head calmly. “Not today.”
You look at him with a confused expression “What does that mean?”
Jay’s expression shifts slowly, “I don’t know.”
And that was the problem. Nobody seemed to know. At exactly 10:00, the conference room doors opened. Two staff members entered. Behind them came one of the company’s executives and your group’s manager - Cha Hyunsoo.
The conversation immediately died. Mr. Cha takes a seat. He doesn’t smile as he normally would when he sees you all.
He simply places a folder on the table. Your stomach tightens.
Jungwon straightens in his chair, “Is everything okay?”
Hyunsoo looked at all seven of you. Seven. Your eyes instinctively moved back toward the empty chair.
He noticed. Everyone did. There was a pause. Then he spoke. “Before we begin… there’s something important you all need to know.”
Sunoo’s fingers slowly tightened around his sleeve and Ni-Ki leaned forward with attentive eyes.
You felt your heart begin to pick up as the silence hangs over the room.
Hyunsoo opens a folder calmly before saying, “Heeseung will not be joining us for this meeting.” A strange silence settled over the room.
Jay’s brows furrow slowly, “Why?”
Hyunsoo didn’t answer immediately. Instead he takes a slow breath as his eyes slide toward the folder.
He eventually looks back at you. All of you “He has made a decision regarding his future with Enhypen.”
Your stomach immediately drops. And suddenly the empty chair didn’t feel so empty anymore.
Instead it felt like a warning. But then Hyunsoo speaks as if it takes a great deal of effort to get the words out. “Heeseung has decided to leave the group. Effective immediately.”
