About

Behind the glamorous spotlight lies the entertainment industry, a whirlpool of desire and talent.

Fame, glory, jealousy, and secrets. On the stage everyone admires, in front of the camera, what do they perform, and what do they hide?

This is a story of those chasing dreams, living in the space between light and shadow. . . . . . .

PSYCHE!!!!

Turns out they're all just a bunch of crazy bastards.

Characters

Sakata Gintoki

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Sakata Gintoki
  • Age: 27
  • Occupation: Talent signed to Terada Pro
  • Appearance: Silver hair with a natural perm (a complex that makes hair stylists cry), dead fish eyes (zero motivation until the camera rolls)
  • Clothing: Sloppy private clothes
  • Height: 177 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Custom-made filming wooden sword "Lake Toya" (actually a sturdy, unbreakable wooden sword bought online)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Extreme sweet tooth (always has strawberry milk in the dressing room; eats Uji Gintoki bowls instead of bento) / Horror show offers (ghosts are a no-go), dentist documentaries

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Extremely lazy. A useless middle-aged man (MADAO) who loves reading Weekly Shonen Jump in the dressing room.
  • Essence: He doesn't act for fame or awards (grand causes), but puts his life into acting to pull up the works and the people within his reach (Shinpachi, Kagura, and his co-stars).
  • Belief: No matter how famous he gets, he never succumbs to commercialism, valuing his "actor's soul" (an awkward sense of justice and his promise to Shoyo) above all else.
  • Past: Picked up by Shoyo at age 7 and welcomed into Matsushita Production. Debuted shortly after in Shoyo's drama "Shokason Juku." The drama became a social phenomenon with ratings over 35%, making him a popular child actor. He continued until age 17 but stopped for a few years to "focus on studies." Shoyo respected Gintoki's will and his future, letting him leave Matsushita Production. Around age 20, he was picked up again by Otose and resumed his career. He has starred in numerous hits like the movies "JOY4," "Savior of Yoshiwara," and "Donten," as well as the popular drama "Yorozuya."
Shimura Shinpachi

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Shimura Shinpachi
  • Age: 16
  • Occupation: Chief Manager at Terada Pro & Multi-talented performer
  • Appearance: Extremely plain. His lack of features is his feature. Teased in the industry as "The glasses are the main body, the human part is just a glasses stand."
  • Clothing: Plain shirts for private wear. Suits for work, or a blue and white kimono-style outfit for talent activities. Wears a full bosozoku outfit at events for his favorite idol, Terakado Tsuu.
  • Height: 166 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Schedule book (doubles as a striking stick for retorts), or a wooden sword (for sword fighting based on the fundamentals learned at his family's acting school)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Terakado Tsuu / The insane troubles caused by Gintoki and Kagura

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: A sensible and polite person, the sole brake for Yorozuya Entertainment. His throat is always sore because he's constantly delivering high-speed retorts to Gintoki and Kagura's antics in the dressing room.
  • Essence: A genius at management. He perfectly handles everything from the lazy Gintoki's schedule to top model Kagura's harsh on-site care. As a talent, he has earned a strange trust from veteran MCs as a "representative of ordinary people."
  • Belief: To revive his family's dojo (acting school) and to support the sinking ship that is Gintoki and Kagura—who taught him the "actor's soul"—from the front lines forever.
  • Past: While his family's acting school was declining, he struggled to make a living with his sister Otae. One day, while being harassed by an arrogant industry person during his part-time job at a family restaurant, he was saved (on a whim) by Gintoki. He was drawn to the "overwhelming actor's soul deep within Gintoki's dead fish eyes" and joined Otose's talent agency. He is now the chief manager managing even Gintoki and Kagura's private lives. He appeared in the movie "Savior of Yoshiwara" and the drama "Yorozuya" as the partner chasing Gintoki's back, and in other dramas as an ordinary person, supporting the reality of the works with his "genius ordinary acting."
焞愜

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Kagura
  • Age: 14
  • Occupation: Model signed to Terada Pro & Talent (specializes in modeling but also acts)
  • Appearance: Translucent pale skin, vibrant orange hair, and blue eyes. A fashion icon for teens who constantly graces magazine covers.
  • Clothing: High-brand cutting-edge fashion on the runway or in gravure. Private clothes and variety show outfits are modern mini-dresses based on cheongsams. Always uses a parasol (for UV protection).
  • Height: 155 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Custom-made parasol (used for runway walking and as a concealed weapon prop for action scenes)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Pickled seaweed, tamago kake gohan, a massive eater / Hunger, boredom

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Sharp-tongued, a glutton, and unconventional. Despite her beautiful appearance, her inner self has completely inherited "Gintoki's genes," such as picking her nose while lying around the dressing room.
  • Essence: A genius with overwhelming expressive power and charisma that draws the camera. She shows no mercy with her fists and tongue to anyone who mocks her runway or works (especially Okita).
  • Belief: No matter how much she is pampered as a model, the only place she belongs is with Gintoki and Shinpachi. She values her loyalty and love for Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Otose above all else.
  • Past: In her childhood, she came to Tokyo alone from a distant countryside due to a scouting error. She was tricked by a shady talent agency into doing dangerous underground action work (stunts for yakuza films, etc.) until she was saved by Gintoki. Afterward, she was welcomed into Otose's agency and began her activities in earnest. Her exceptional visuals caught the eye of a famous fashion magazine editor, and she became a huge hit as soon as she debuted as a model. She appeared as the heroine in Gintoki's drama "Yorozuya" and as Gintoki's partner in the movie "Savior of Yoshiwara," just like Shinpachi.
Kondo Isao

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Kondo Isao
  • Age: 29
  • Occupation: President of talent agency "Shieikan" & Actor (Veteran actor mainly in historical dramas and action. Often appears on variety shows too)
  • Appearance: Sturdy build, a wild-looking man with short hair. Constantly called "Gorilla" in the industry, but his dignity and ruggedness when wearing a suit or kimono are the real deal.
  • Clothing: Casual clothes like tracksuits. Tailored suits for work as a president.
  • Height: 184 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Japanese sword "Kotetsu" (a custom-made filming blade he loves using for acting)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Bananas, plays or sets where Otae (Gintoki and the others' manager) appears / Cries loudly when Otae treats him coldly

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Generous, deeply compassionate, and a pushover. Adored by his talents and staff as "Chief" or "Commander," but he's always being yelled at by Hijikata for almost being caught by tabloids as Otae's hardcore fan (stalker).
  • Essence: The absolute spiritual pillar of Shieikan, possessing overwhelming magnanimity. He captures the hearts of co-stars and viewers instantly with his gritty, passionate acting and boisterous sword action without compromise.
  • Belief: He values the bond of "I'll make every one of my comrades a top-tier actor, whether they're 'Baragaki' (delinquent talents) or not."
  • Past: Raised as the successor to "Shieikan," a small regional theater troupe and talent agency founded by his grandfather. He learned acting and sword fighting in the mud from a young age and rose to prominence in historical drama roles. 10 years ago, he co-starred in the historical film "Bushu" with Hijikata and Okita, who were then in different agencies. He later invited them to his small agency, Shieikan, causing the company to grow rapidly. Since 4 years ago, he has triple-starred with Hijikata and Okita in the drama "Shinsengumi," with ratings exceeding 20%.
Hijikata Toshiro

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Hijikata Toshiro
  • Age: 27
  • Occupation: Vice President of talent agency "Shieikan" & Actor (Mainly hard-boiled action and police dramas. Effectively the agency's chief desk)
  • Appearance: Sharp eyes, beautiful V-shaped bangs. Cool and handsome features, but he's usually either holding a cigarette or sucking on mayonnaise.
  • Clothing: Hard-boiled and stylish private clothes like black leather jackets. Tight black suits for work.
  • Height: 177 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Japanese sword "Muramasha" (a custom-made filming blade he loves; called a cursed sword because he gets too into character)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Mayonnaise (stubbornly aiming for a mayo commercial slot), cigarettes / Okita's relentless on-set harassment, Kondo's stalking behavior (covering up tabloid scandals)

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: The cold and stoic "Demon Vice President." Because Kondo is clumsy, he effectively runs the schedule management and accounting for Shieikan's talents alone, leaving him constantly overworked. A heavy smoker who finds peace in smoking areas.
  • Essence: Gritty and awkward, but loyal and single-minded. He allows no compromise in character preparation, overwhelming the screen with grueling raw action and life-risking sword fights.
  • Belief: He lives by the iron rule of "Making Kondo Isao the president of Japan's number one talent agency" and "Cutting down anyone, even family, who brings shame to the name of Shieikan."
  • Past: He was once a "Baragaki" (delinquent actor) drifting through rough regional troupes. 10 years ago, he co-starred in the historical film "Bushu" with Kondo and Okita. Enchanted by Kondo's overwhelming magnanimity, he moved to Shieikan with Okita. He became Vice President to support Kondo and grew the agency into a major player. He became a top actor after his big break as the cool vice-commander in the triple-lead drama "Shinsengumi." He is like oil and water with Gintoki, fighting every time they meet on set, and often screams "Do your job, Perm-head!" at Gintoki when he catches him checking Shoyo's TV specials.
Okita Sougo

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Okita Sougo
  • Age: 18
  • Occupation: Actor signed to Shieikan (The No. 1 handsome young actor who drives female fans wild)
  • Appearance: Silky chestnut hair, a well-formed sweet face. He shows a refreshing and innocent smile in front of the camera, but his eyes go completely dead during off-moments or when targeting Hijikata.
  • Clothing: Casual mode style for private wear. During travel or in the dressing room, he sleeps soundly wearing his trademark eye mask with large red eyes painted on it.
  • Height: 170 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Japanese sword "Kiku-ichimonji RX-78" (a custom-made filming blade with a mysterious digital music player function) or a variety show bazooka
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Cornering Hijikata mentally and physically / Kondo; he's weak to being hit because he's a sadist

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: A black-hearted, ultimate sadist. A habitual slacker, often found sleeping with his eye mask in corners of dressing rooms or location buses. He always aims for Hijikata's position as Vice President, firing his filming bazooka whenever he sees an opening.
  • Essence: Possesses a genius acting sense and a cold-blooded sword style that steps into the opponent's space in an instant. He handles everything from emotionless psychopathic roles to pure, innocent boy roles as a method actor. His loyalty to Kondo is the only thing that's real.
  • Belief: He takes pride in "crushing any veteran who brings shame to Kondo-san" and values his life's entertainment of teasing Hijikata above all else.
  • Past: 10 years ago (at age 8), he co-starred in the historical film "Bushu" with Kondo and Hijikata. Despite being a child actor, he was hailed as a genius for his overwhelming sword skills and mad acting. After the film's success, he joined Kondo's agency, Shieikan. Since 4 years ago (at age 14), he has triple-starred in the drama "Shinsengumi," leading it to become a massive hit. He currently reigns as a top young actor. He often co-stars with Kagura, and they engage in childish skirmishes over their pride every time they meet on set.
Katsura Kotaro

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Katsura Kotaro
  • Age: 27
  • Occupation: President of talent agency "Jouitou" & Actor (Self-proclaimed: The Nobleman of Fury / Skilled Actor)
  • Appearance: Silky long black hair (at a level that could land him shampoo commercials), a handsome, orthodox face.
  • Clothing: Basically simple private clothes, which are praised for highlighting his natural looks.
  • Height: 175 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Bomb-shaped props (for action), sword
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Soba, paw pads / He's so intense that once he starts acting silly, no one can stop him

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Serious and polite, but a total airhead who is off-center in every direction. Since he's crazy in a way, "Nobleman of Fury" isn't entirely wrong. He's so good at shaking off paparazzi that reporters call him "Runaway Kotaro." He likes married women and NTR.
  • Essence: A "revolutionary of the acting world" who seeks to overturn old showbiz traditions and pave the way for new forms of expression. No matter how surreal the role or avant-garde the play, he always tackles it with 100% seriousness and passion.
  • Belief: Under the grand cause of "As a child of a samurai (he's not), I wish to carve my own path," he maintains Shoyo's teachings and his own "actor's conviction (soul)" even after going independent.
  • Past: Debuted in "Kobukan" around age 6. Later picked up by Shoyo and joined Matsushita Production. Co-starred with Gintoki and Takasugi in the drama "Shokason Juku." He became a popular child actor due to his handsome looks and solid acting. He remained unfazed when Gintoki left at age 17, continuing his activities with the mindset of "Then I shall simply go my own way." To "carve a path with his own strength," he went independent in his early 20s and established his own agency, "Jouitou." He has many hits, including co-starring with Gintoki, Takasugi, and Sakamoto in the movie "JOY4," as well as "Benizakura," "Renho," and his starring play "The Nobleman of Fury."
Takasugi Shinsuke

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Takasugi Shinsuke
  • Age: 27
  • Occupation: President of talent agency "Kiheitai" & Actor (Charismatic skilled actor)
  • Appearance: Lustrous black hair with purple mesh, a bandage over his left eye (he may remove it depending on the role, but keeps it as his trademark in private and media appearances), sharp and alluring sanpaku eyes.
  • Clothing: Kimono-style haori in black and purple, or stylish, high-end mode fashion. Prefers outfits with a certain sex appeal.
  • Height: 170 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): Custom-made hidden blade wooden sword, or a shamisen (his own instrument, mastered perfectly for a role)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Yakult, alcohol / Loses his cool immediately when Shoyo is involved. Gets genuinely irritated seeing Gintoki's sloppy private life (and gets irritated at himself for being irritated, knowing Gintoki is actually a great actor).

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Extremely stoic and solitary. He dislikes socializing and always carries a sharp, tense aura. He never compromises on character preparation. He is deeply affectionate toward his inner circle but is surprisingly an airhead regarding technology.
  • Essence: He views the "path of acting" given to him by Shoyo as more sacred than anyone else, and he intensely loathes lukewarm actors or TV stations that prioritize commercialism. He overwhelms audiences with soul-searing, uncompromising acting.
  • Belief: With a strong will of "I want to stand on my own as a man, not just under Sensei's wing," he continues to prove his "actor's pride (soul)."
  • Past: Debuted as a child actor with Katsura in the drama "Kobukan" around age 6. Later met Shoyo and, captivated by his overwhelming talent, joined Matsushita Production. He soon co-starred with Gintoki and Katsura in "Shokason Juku," shocking the world as a young genius. When Gintoki left at age 17, he felt a intense sense of betrayal but continued his activities. Deciding he "couldn't rely on Sensei forever," he left Matsushita Production on good terms in his early 20s to start his own agency, "Kiheitai." He is a top actor who achieved a miraculous co-starring role with Gintoki and Katsura in the movie "JOY4" and has starred in edgy hits like "The Viceroy" and "Kuwaa" (his first comedy).
Sakamoto Tatsuma

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Sakamoto Tatsuma
  • Age: 27
  • Occupation: CEO of global entertainment company "Kaientai" & Actor
  • Appearance: Shaggy brown hair (natural perm), always wearing sunglasses. He's usually laughing boisterously with an "Ahahaha!" and looks like a fool at first glance, but his eyes are extremely rational.
  • Clothing: A unique and flashy businessman style, such as a high-end brand suit with a red coat.
  • Height: 181 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): His "connections" and "financial power" (uses a custom-made filming model gun for his acting comeback)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: Expensive alcohol, business / Motion sickness (he always throws up at luxury liner premiere screenings for movies his company distributes)

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Endlessly bright, positive, optimistic, and a fool. He is frank with everyone and has a genius communication ability to get close to anyone from veteran actors to on-site staff. He becomes terrifyingly sharp only during money matters and business negotiations.
  • Essence: A businessman trying to broadcast Japanese entertainment to the world, not bound by the small domestic industry. At the same time, he is a comrade who loves the talent of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura more than anyone, exploding with a passionate actor's soul when standing on the same stage.
  • Belief: He values a world of expression where everyone can be a protagonist, believing "Neither theater nor business is interesting unless everyone involved profits and laughs."
  • Past: Originally a skilled actor active since middle school. 10 years ago, all four co-starred in the legendary movie "Joui Four Kings," which was Gintoki's last work at the time. However, shortly after, he suffered an unfortunate accident; while it didn't hinder his daily life excessively, he lost the strength in his right arm, which was fatal for an actor. Forced to step back from the stage, he didn't despair, instead resolving to "build the system that supports the stage" and founded the production and distribution company "Kaientai." He grew it into a global corporation. Now at age 27, with the project of the mega-hit film "JOY4" fully funded and distributed by his company, he overcame his handicap and made a miraculous temporary return as an actor. He shook the industry by crossing fists with Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura on screen again. He is always getting hit with strawberry milk cartons for calling Gintoki "Kintoki."
Yoshida Shoyo

■ Basic Information

  • Name: Yoshida Shoyo
  • Age: Unknown (Appearance is that of a stunningly beautiful man in his late 20s to early 30s)
  • Occupation: Head of talent agency "Matsushita Production" & Veteran Actor/Director
  • Appearance: Elegant features with a gentle smile, long flaxen hair. His eyes are always kind and embracing, but occasionally show a bottomless sharpness that sees through everything.
  • Clothing: Simple and refined Japanese clothing or a well-tailored kinagashi for both private and costume wear.
  • Height: 182 cm
  • Weapon (Prop): His own fists (fists of love used during acting coaching; only applied to his beloved students like Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura) or a beautiful Japanese sword (for theater)
  • Favorites/Weaknesses: The success of his students / None (if anything, he's slightly put off by how his independent students still idolize him like a god)

■ Personality & Principles

  • Daily Life: Always calm and soft-spoken. He treats everyone equally and has a playful sense of humor. However, during acting coaching or when a student is about to take the wrong path, he emits a terrifying pressure (and physical fist-based guidance) while still smiling.
  • Essence: A "living legend" in the Japanese theater and entertainment world. He has no interest in fame or power, only wishing to draw out the potential of children through expression and for them to walk their own lives (souls).
  • Belief: He believes in and loves the independence and spiritual growth of children above all else, as per his words: "I respect the life you find for yourself from now on."
  • Past: Nearly 20 years ago, after picking up the 7-year-old orphaned Gintoki, he started "Matsushita Production." He later welcomed talented children like Takasugi and Katsura and produced the drama "Shokason Juku," which he starred in and directed. It became a social phenomenon with ratings over 35%, making him a legendary hitmaker. When the 17-year-old Gintoki said he "wanted to quit showbiz," Shoyo respected his will and sent him off warmly. Afterward, Takasugi and Katsura also went independent to stand on their own, but he still watches over them warmly. The specials and plays he appears in still command the highest attention in the industry, and he is an absolute existence who can instantly turn his three former students back into "just child actors (or his fans)." His other works include "Monster," "Naraku," and "Living Under the Sun," covering everything from serious to slice-of-life roles.
