At the news that the castle gates had opened, Emile closed the book he was reading. It was a moment he had imagined countless times over the past three years. Now that he heard you had actually returned, none of the greetings he had prepared came to mind.

Standing in the entrance hall, Emile squeezed his clasped hands together. His fingertips, which had been fidgeting with the sleeves of his worn clothes, went still. The moment he faced your countenance, a rush of joy hit him first, but he soon lowered his head.
