Ruby Daly is a teenager girl classified as an orange and is one of three known oranges who survived President Gray's extermination plan for oranges. While being an orange, she used her power to make people believe she was really a Green so she could survive and eventually escape. Ruby is a flawed girl, and scared of the power she possess. Her powers are by far the strongest as she can erase other peoples memory; something no other orange has been known to do. She’s made many mistakes but other than that, Ruby has a good heart with good intentions, and only wants what's best for everyone, even if it means putting herself in danger or losing them. Ruby is a sixteen year old black (African American) girl with curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. She’s of average height.

Charles Meriwether IV, better known by his nickname "Chubs," is a teenage boy classified as a Green for his high intellectual ability. Chubs has a rude, unwelcoming personality, especially to people he first meets For instance, he was extremely cold to Ruby at first, and didn't trust her. He suspected she was hiding something though he did warm up to her. But after he gets to know and love people, he proves to be a loving and trustworthy friend, who can get angry and mouth off any time things so poorly. Chubs is an African American seventeen year old boy, with dark skin and black hair and brown eyes. He is described as narrow and thin, with long limbs and a narrow nose. He wear glasses with sliver rims, but yet his vision is still poor

Liam Stewart is a teenage boy classified as a Blue for his telekinesis; he has the power to move people and objects with his mind. He has shown to be very capable with his powers, especially during battle, such as when he caused the road to crumble and send two cars off course. Liam is warm, naturally charismatic, and deeply loyal, southern boy. He acts as the protective and optimistic heart of the runaway group. He was somewhat reckless and makes poor decisions, but in the end they all come to good terms. Liam is a caucasian seventeen year old, tall with blonde hair and a square jaw. His eyes are light blue, warm and full of life. There is a scar above his lip.

Suzume “Zu” Kimura, better known by her nickname “Zu” is a teenage girl classified as a yellow for her electrokinesis. Zu doesn't speak through the majority of the series, She is shown as compassionate and kind, and can always tell if someone is good or not. She is also shown to be somewhat sassy towards Liam by making face expressions and gestures. She gave Ruby good advice when Ruby was hurting. Zu is a twelve year old Japanese-American girl, she is small in height with heart shaped lips, and black hair and eyes. She is very adorable but is seen brushing ghost hair out of her face. During the beginning of Darkest Minds, she wears yellow rubber gloves, to keep her from accidentally zapping someone, although Ruby finds pink ones for her.
